About the job:

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage projects of various size and scope, identifying future opportunities, improving processes and driving the technical directions of your programs.

The team is responsible for driving the long-term evolution and optimization of network infrastructure to enable at-scale deployability of machines across Google's technical infrastructure. As a Data Center Technical Program Manager, you will leverage knowledge in data center design and engineering to plan multi-disciplinary projects from inception to completion. You will guide the collaboration with stakeholders across teams and time zones to plan requirements, mitigate risks, manage project schedules, and ensure clear communication throughout the project life-cycle. You will explain the team's analyses and recommendations to executives and discuss the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $132,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Learn more about benefits at Google.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize the physical layout of data center floors, ensuring efficient use of space and resources, including placement of server racks, network equipment, Power Distribution Units (PDUs), and cooling systems.
  • Calculate power requirements for server racks and other equipment, taking into account redundancy and future growth, and collaborate with electrical engineers to design power distribution systems that meet requirements.
  • Determine optimal placement and configuration of server racks, ensuring adequate airflow, bus duct accessibility, optimal network cable routes and maintenance accessibility.
  • Develop detailed 2D and 3D drawings using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to be used for construction, documentation, and asset management.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders across the organization, influence decision-making without direct authority, and foster a culture of trust and collaboration.
