Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform and demonstrate proficiency in the following functions with supervision
The Grounds person must:
a) Maintain campus roads, walkways, turf, and landscaped areas by using equipment, tools, materials, and techniques common to the groundsmen trade – including but not limited to mowing, raking, cutting sod, trimming,
patching, sweeping, transplanting, digging trenching, taping, watering, spreading, washing, spraying, shoveling, and plowing snow, etc.
b) Move and lift materials, equipment, furniture, and supplies.
c) Operate and maintain garden-type equipment including by not limited to small tractors and trailers, mowers, sprayers, weed eaters, trimmers, chain saws, shears, sod cutters, etc.
d) Drive a ¾ ton truck.
e) Snow removal operations – operate necessary equipment (plows, blowers, sweepers, etc.) to remove snow from all walkways, driveways, roads, and parking lots on and off campus.
f) Operate trash truck and be part of the function to remove trash from containers, trash cans, recycle containers, and all other parts of campus property.
1. Show initiative to identify and report problems requiring maintenance and repair, and make recommendations concerning work methods and conditions to improve production, safety, and work conditions.
2. Responsible for maintenance, cleaning, and minor repair of all equipment on a daily basis.
3. Demonstrate willingness to work on planned or emergency overtime for campus events, athletic events, and snow removal operations requiring support by the grounds crew.
4. Demonstrate flexibility to work at a variety of jobs, to accept schedule and work assignments changes willingly.
5. Have the ability to communicate with others, verbally and in writing.
6. Perform other tasks related to the maintenance and repair of college facilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Current driver’s license in your State of Residence.
Must meet Emergency Personnel requirements of the job, which include routine requirements for nights and weekends. In particular, must be able to respond to snow clearance requirements of the Grounds Shop.
Must be able to meet heavy lifting requirements of the Grounds Crew, which routinely requires lifts of up to 100 pounds and occasional lifts above 100 pounds. Examples include large dirt balls of shrubs and trees, furniture of all sorts, appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, etc. cement, fertilizer, concrete, construction debris, heavy loads associated with furniture and equipment used in academic facilities, recycled glass, college waste used in academic facilities, recycled glass, college waste materials of all sorts, college supplies, and many other heavy loads.
