Grounds Laborer

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs wide variety of manual labor tasks on roads, grounds or building maintenance.
May perform unskilled tasks assisting mechanics.
Operates such equipment as power lawn mowers and pneumatic tools.

Position Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Requires a High School diploma, GED, or higher.
With limited instruction the candidate must be able to demonstrate an aptitude for using various

power tools and equipment.

Experienced in commercial landscaping including the use of commercial lawn mowers, line

trimmers, edgers, and all associated hand tools.

Experienced in the use of light powered equipment such as skid steer loaders, tractors, and off-road

vehicles.

Must possess a valid NYS driver's license.

Other Requirements:

Must meet the medical requirements of the “Job Assessment Form."
Must have a telephone and must provide the number to BNL for callout and contact purposes.
Must possess written and verbal skills.
Must be capable of following written instruction procedures, work orders, and similar documents.
Must possess the writing skills to sufficiently complete work orders and other required

documents.

Must be able to communicate verbally with customers, fellow workers, and supervisors.
Must be able to complete all the requirements of the Job Training Assessment.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to be available for off-hour response to emergency call-ins for snow removal and other

events.

Experience in road repairs such as pothole repair with both hot mixed asphalt concrete and cold

patch materials.

Experience in the performance of, or assistance with masonry work.
Experience with excavation and grading.

Environmental, Health, and Safety Requirements:

Standing, bending and lifting.
Ability to do heavy lifting > 30 lbs.
Ability to do moderate lifting < 30 lbs.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to climb fixed and portable ladders.
Work outdoors/cold environments.
Work in warm environments.
Moving machinery.
Use of powered and air operated hand-tools.
Use of a respirator and other related safety equipment.
Physical coordination dexterity and balance.
Ability to wear proper PPE such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection.
