Purpose of the Position:
The Landscaper I is a key member of the UAH Facilities & Operations department, which is responsible for the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of each of the University’s 90+ buildings and 500 acres. The employee's primary responsibility is to create a welcoming impression of the campus by performing a variety of basic-level landscape functions to maintain and improve UAH grounds and landscape.
Duties / Responsibilities
Participate in the installation, care, and maintenance of University turfgrass and landscaping:
Perform a variety of basic landscape-related duties on University landscaping, including but not limited to proper plant installation, sod installation, pruning of trees, plants, and shrubs, mechanical weed management, landscape bed edging, and mulching.
When necessary, maintain campus turfgrass areas by mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing.
Remove trash and other debris, including leaves, from assigned zones with motorized and hand equipment.
Perform season maintenance throughout campus:
During fall and winter months, remove leaves, sticks, branches, and other debris related to seasonal changes.
Assist in winter weather actions including snow removal, application of de-icer, preventive treatments, and ice removal.
Perform basic maintenance on landscaping equipment:
Check and clean air filters, tools, landscape equipment, etc. on a daily basis.
Monitor and maintain proper fluid levels.
Report any equipment problems to Landscaper III.
Assist with campus moves, setups, and special events
Minimum Requirements:
High school education or equivalent.
1 year of full-time verifiable work experience preferably in landscape management.
This employee will be a regular driver as defined in the UAH Vehicle Safety Management Program, which includes but is not limited to, possessing a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable MVR in the judgment of the University’s insurance company.
