The Landscaper I is a key member of the UAH Facilities & Operations department, which is responsible for the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of each of the University’s 90+ buildings and 500 acres. The employee's primary responsibility is to create a welcoming impression of the campus by performing a variety of basic-level landscape functions to maintain and improve UAH grounds and landscape.
Duties / Responsibilities
Participate in the installation, care, and maintenance of University turfgrass and landscaping:
- Perform a variety of basic landscape-related duties on University landscaping, including but not limited to proper plant installation, sod installation, pruning of trees, plants, and shrubs, mechanical weed management, landscape bed edging, and mulching.
- When necessary, maintain campus turfgrass areas by mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing.
- Remove trash and other debris, including leaves, from assigned zones with motorized and hand equipment.
Perform season maintenance throughout campus:
- During fall and winter months, remove leaves, sticks, branches, and other debris related to seasonal changes.
- Assist in winter weather actions including snow removal, application of de-icer, preventive treatments, and ice removal.
Perform basic maintenance on landscaping equipment:
- Check and clean air filters, tools, landscape equipment, etc. on a daily basis.
- Monitor and maintain proper fluid levels.
- Report any equipment problems to Landscaper III.
