How You Fit In & the Details:
As the Senior Data Scientist, you will work within our Data Science and Analytics team and the Engineering & Product team to focus on Vizion’s data program, which supports the core product for our customers, internal business needs, and analytics — helping to accelerate the digital transformation of supply chain & logistics companies around the world. We will look to you to play an integral part in building out the data platform that powers our product and external data sets. The ability to ingest, research, understand, and model global trade data and the story it tells will be your bread and butter as you work with data engineers and analysts to help fuel global logistics innovation.
This role will report to our Director of Analytics and will work within a small team of passionate data scientists, backend/frontend engineers, and data analysts to partner across the organization providing quality and completeness of data with our core products, analytics products, and company reporting. In addition to the above, you will:
● Design, conduct, and graduate experiments to further product needs and company knowledge regarding global logistics
● Use and develop analytics programs, machine learning, and statistical methods for predictive and prescriptive modeling and forecasting
● Assist in defining standards for naming, governing, managing, transforming, storing, and data delivery
● Own and assist in exploring and defining new data sets
● Help identify and implement better methods and tools that can positively influence the data operations across the business
● Integrate statistical data analysis with geospatial data
● Develop a comprehensive understanding of the global logistics data environment to design data strategy for use in machine learning models
● Apply machine learning, statistical methods, and operations research techniques to optimize supply chain performance
● Build NLP and/or recommendation systems
● Work closely with product and engineering teams on gathering detailed requirements, developing technical designs and implementing end to end production.
● Keeps abreast of the latest developments in data science and optimization methodologies.
● Provide leadership and mentorship to data scientists and analysts, guiding them in formulating and implementing our data strategy, conducting methodology and code reviews, and continuously learning and contributing to Vizion's knowledge of data science best practices using industry and academic resources.
● Collaborate with product and engineering teams to discuss problems, design analytics framework, identify the most relevant data for the business, and develop solutions
● Architect, develop and deploy models and algorithms using customer, open source, and proprietary data; assess model quality, and validate and iterate on those models
● Assist with the onboarding process of new team members and actively participate in interview process
Basic Qualifications:
● 5+ years of experience in a data science role
● 3+ years of programming knowledge with Python, R, or SQL
● Experience in the Shipping / Logistics / Freight Industry, a plus
● Experience with AWS or similar cloud data platforms
● Experience working with and retrieving data through APIs
● Understanding of ETL/Workflow Orchestration
● Proven track record of providing detailed, accurate, and meaningful reporting of analysis
● Experience demonstrating agile working practices
● Inquisitive, pragmatic, and exploratory mindset
● Sense of humor, team player, good interpersonal skills
● Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication, and attention to detail and consistency when documenting materials required for performing assigned responsibilities
