Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper ProvidencePosted Date: Sep 25 2024We are currently looking for highly motivated organic chemists to join our Medicinal Chemistry team in suburban Philadelphia. Our department partners with program teams across GSK's research units to deliver high quality small molecules, from hit generation through late-stage lead optimization to address increasingly complex disease areas. The purpose of the role is to provide a high level of scientific and technical contributions to projects within the Medicinal Chemistry portfolio (including but not limited to: small molecules, PROTACs, degraders, oligonucleotides, covalents, and antibody-drug conjugates) with a primary responsibility of driving efficiencies applying novel synthetic methods and techniques to design, synthesize, and purify candidate molecules. The successful applicant will become fluent in all areas of medicinal chemistry while working as part of a highly productive team to design and synthesize developable drug molecules. The role involves, to differing degrees, medicinal chemistry, data analytics, designing compounds to test medicinal chemistry hypotheses, synthetic organic chemistry to support both medicinal chemistry and/or candidate selection and championing technological advances. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across teams of synthetic chemists, analytical chemists, and data analytics experts to help invent these new processes and chemistries to solve impactful problems that will accelerate delivery of important medicinal advancements to patients. Successful candidates must be able to think creatively, champion the needs of the organization and work collaboratively within a team environment. This is an on-site, lab-based role. These responsibilities include some of the following:• Apply modern synthetic technologies to the preparation of structurally complex organic molecules by performing multi-step organic synthesis to prepare intermediates and final products, from milligram to multigram reaction scale• Propose synthetic routes to targeted molecules including the ability to optimize and troubleshoot chemical reactions• Use and operate analytical instrumentation for the analysis and characterization of organic compounds (NMR/LCMS/HPLC)• Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records using Electronic Notebook• Assess and interpret data from biological assays to inform future compound design• Work effectively in both independent and highly collaborative, multi-functional teams to drive projects forward• Prepare summaries of research results and communicate findings to team members through written reports and oral presentations• Stay current with developments in the field of synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and drug discovery through literature review• Write-up experimental procedures for journal and patent applications to secure GSK's intellectual property• Act in accordance with all GSK policies on personnel, safety/health/environment regulations, best laboratory practice, and Code of ConductWhen submitting your CV/Resume please also include a Research StatementQualifications:• Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or Biochemistry or• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or Biochemistry degree in these areas with 2+ years relevant industry experiencePreferred Qualifications:• Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or Biochemistry with 2+ years industry experience• Experience in synthetic chemistry; the application of new synthetic methodology and execution of multi-step syntheses.• Peer-reviewed publications, patents, or presentations• Proven track record of lab-based synthetic organic chemistry experience• Technically sound in organic chemistry fundamentals: strong understanding of reactions, mechanisms, and reactivity• Proficient in searching the chemical literature to evaluate potential solutions to synthetic challenges• Strong problem solving abilities, including critical thinking skills and attention to detail• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills#LI-GSKPlease visit GSK US Benefits Summary to learn more about the comprehensive benefits program GSK offers US employees.Why GSK?Uniting science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together.GSK is a global biopharma company with a special purpose - to unite science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together - so we can positively impact the health of billions of people and deliver stronger, more sustainable shareholder returns - as an organisation where people can thrive.
