SUMMARY:
Hachette Book Group’s Subsidiary Rights department is looking for a Subrights Assistant to join the team. The Subrights Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Subrights department and will report to the Directors of Subsidiary Rights for both Little, Brown & Company and Grand Central Publishing.
The role is NYC based; HBG's current hybrid working model is two set days in the office per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Helps to prepare rights guides for international book fairs
- Handles invoicing and payment tracking/chasing for file fees and advance/royalty payments.
- Processes production file requests from international publishers
- Researches and responds to rights queries
- Assists with entering of deal memos and tracking/chasing of contracts.
- Enters serial deal memos and tracks payment.
- Updates submissions logs for select markets with the guidance of Directors
- Mails author copies of international editions.
- Maintains department spreadsheets including export grid and money chasing.
- Registers visitors and assists with booking internal meetings for international clients
- Evaluates acquisition material for potential in domestic and international markets (with guidance of Directors)
- Reads manuscripts and proposals and assists with writing pitch letters.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively while also ensuring accuracy of work and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings.
- Prior publishing internship experience is a plus.
- A strong interest in international rights and curiosity about world culture is a must!
- Must be results-driven and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed.
- Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work and demonstrate good follow-up and follow-through.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team setting and to build supportive and constructive relationships within and outside of the organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook.

The compensation for this position is $47,500. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
