The Director, Technical Program Management, will be responsible for leading and managing high-level Technology programs and complex software development projects that span across multiple teams and disciplines. This role requires a deep understanding of both agile and traditional project management methodologies, with the ability to tailor approaches to best fit the project and team needs. The Sr. Director, Technical Project Management will oversee the entire project lifecycle, from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, and closure, ensuring successful delivery on time, within scope, and within budget. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of progressive experience in project management, a strong technical background, experience managing ecommerce and web-based projects, and proven leadership capabilities. This is a hybrid position that would involve several trips a year to our Portland office, as well as potential additional 1-5 trips a year as projects warrant.
Key Responsibilities- Project Planning & Management:
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex software development projects.
- Develop comprehensive project plans that merge customer requirements with company goals and coordinate various technical personnel during all project phases.
- Utilize both agile and traditional project management methodologies (PMI) to manage the project lifecycle, ensuring that project objectives are met on time and within budget.
- Establish and maintain project schedules, resource plans, and status reports.
- Vendor management to keep track of project related vendor deliverables, contract review, communication, and issue escalation.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage and mentor in-house and contract project management team members, as well as project teams, including developers, QA testers, business analysts, product owners, and other stakeholders, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Facilitate communication between project teams, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure alignment on project goals and objectives.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review progress, discuss challenges, and plan next steps.
- Proactively surface and help resolve conflicts and issues that may arise within the team or project.
- Commitment to continuous improvement within all deliverables, processes, and communications.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all project-related activities, ensuring that stakeholders are informed of project status, risks, and issues.
- Engage with customers and business stakeholders to gather requirements, define project scope, and ensure that project deliverables meet business needs.
- Communicate project risks and issues to stakeholders in a timely manner and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
- Establish, track, and report on key project management metrics such as budgets, timelines, and estimates to actual comparisons.
- Risk & Issue Management:
- Proactively identify and manage project risks, including developing mitigation plans and ensuring that risks are communicated to stakeholders.
- Track and resolve project issues as they arise, ensuring that project deliverables remain on schedule and within scope.
- Assist with coordination for operational readiness related to projects, ensuring stakeholder and dependent teams are ready to launch projects.
- Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate and improve project management processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance team efficiency and project outcomes.
- Provide input on the development of best practices for project management, including agile and iterative methodologies.
Skills & Qualifications- Experience:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in technical project management, with a strong focus on managing software development projects.
- Proven experience in both agile (Scrum, Kanban) and traditional (PMI) project management methodologies.
- Demonstrated success in managing large, complex projects from inception to delivery.
- Experience and desire to manage projects from the highest strategic level down to a detailed task level.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong understanding of software development processes, technologies, and tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA testers, and business analysts.
- Leadership & Communication:
- Excellent leadership skills with a proven ability to motivate and manage teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience in conflict resolution and problem-solving within project teams.
- Project Management Skills:
- Proficient in project management tools (e.g., Jira, Microsoft Project, Trello).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
- Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is preferred.
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent agile certification is highly desirable.
$158,000 - $206,100 a year
