Harvest Winemaking Intern (Central Coast)

The Duckhorn Portfolio is North America’s premier luxury wine company. We were established in 1976 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn. Today, our portfolio features some of North America’s most revered wineries, including Decoy, Paraduxx, Goldeneye, Migration, Canvasback, Calera, Kosta Browne, Greenwing and Postmark.

The Harvest Winemaking Intern will assist The Duckhorn Portfolio’s Central Coast Winemaking team with grape maturity analysis, fermentation monitoring, wine tracking, and data management during the 2023 harvest. This is a unique opportunity to work with premiere vineyards and custom crush facilities throughout California’s Central Coast. The multi-faceted nature of this position allows for many learning opportunities over the course of harvest.

What we will ask you to do:
  • Process and analyze grape maturity samples.
  • Maintain wine tracking software and winemaking spreadsheets.
  • Process all weigh tags into winemaking software.
  • Evaluate grape loads as they arrive at custom crush winery locations, as needed.
  • Track fermentations and pull samples from tanks.
  • Logistical support of Winemaker and Viticulturist as needed.
  • Grape sampling in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties as needed.
  • Special projects as needed.
What you will need:
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and stay on task.
  • Computer skills, including Excel and Word.
  • Valid California’s driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs., work in various environments and perform physical labor.
  • Experience with winery software and/or Viticulture or Enology coursework a plus.
