What Your Day Will Look Like

As a Software Engineer on the SMART team at Hawk-Eye Innovations, you will be a crucial member of an agile team that delivers state-of-the-art products based on our SMART (Synchronised Multi-Angle Replay Technology) codebase. These products are pivotal to sports officiating technology used globally.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve tackling complex software problems in areas such as video capture/output interfacing, video/audio encoding, networking over TCP/UDP, and multithreading. You’ll also work on creating intuitive user interfaces using Qt in Visual Studio, all within a Windows-based environment. Collaborating closely with our product team and customers, you will define requirements and develop innovative solutions to challenging problems within sports technology.

Agile methodologies will guide your workflow, with two-week sprints to deliver impactful technology that enhances the sports industry. You’ll also have opportunities to attend developer conferences to expand your skills and share knowledge with the team, promoting a culture of continuous learning and innovation. Regular hack days encourage you to explore experimental ideas, some of which could lead to groundbreaking products for the market.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement new components for the SMART officiating system.

• Maintain and improve existing software infrastructure.

• Manage full lifecycle development of projects, collaborating with creatives, product engineers, and the wider development team.

• Provide field support for testing, which may occasionally involve travel to sports events.

• Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards innovation, learning, and pushing boundaries.

• Mentor junior team members through code reviews, ensuring code quality meets our standards before merging.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

To be successful in this role, you’ll need proficiency in:

• Modern C++ (at least C++17) and experience in code optimization.

• Writing efficient multithreaded code.

• Familiarity with Git and Visual Studio.

Bonus skills that would make you stand out:

• Experience with Qt for UI development.

• Knowledge of Networking, ElasticSearch, AWS, OpenGL, Audio Processing, FFmpeg, or ZeroMQ.
