Read further to learn how you could help make great things possible not only in your community, but around the world.Primary ResponsibilitiesHDR is seeking a qualified, motivated Senior Archaeologist to join our growing Cultural Resources practice and lead projects requiring due diligence and Section 106 compliance throughout Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas and HDR projects throughout the United States. The primary duty of this position is to serve as a technical expert and support clients with cultural resource management compliance activities for a variety of projects, including road, rail, transit, military, power, water, renewable energy, etc. The successful candidate will comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and appropriate state and local regulations. This work may include:• leading and planning archaeological fieldwork and teams• working on and managing large or complex cultural resources projects• completing technical reviews of deliverables• developing proposals and schedules• developing mitigation plans and agreement documents• actively participating in consultation efforts with the lead federal agency, Tribes, the State Historic Preservation Officer, and other consulting partiesThis is a full-time position with generous benefits that can be located in the following HDR office(s): St. Louis, Springfield, and Kansas City, MO.In the role of Senior Cultural Resource Specialist, we'll count on you to:• Plan, organize and supervise work of medium to large staff of cultural resources professionals and technicians as needed• Develop proposals and assist in managing the scope schedule, and budget for cultural resources projects• Develop and monitor tasks, schedules and cost estimates, and assess applicable requirements and processes for cultural resource projects• Manage archaeological projects and where necessary, develop plans and approaches to optimize efficiency• Provide strategic Section 106 support and guidance for complex cultural resources projects• Take responsibility for leading archaeological surveys, investigations, and site evaluations, and developing reports, findings, and management or mitigation plans• Conduct field work as needed, participate in meetings, and develop compliance strategy• Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in an area of specialization that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity as needed• Provide strategic Section 106 support and guidance for complex cultural resources projects• Conduct analyses of artifacts and features• Conduct field work, participate in meetings, and develop compliance strategies• Coordinate and consult with state/federal agencies, Indian Tribes, and appropriate State Historic Preservation Officers• Travel to project locations, predominantly in Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas, although additional nationwide travel may be requested as needed• Perform other duties as neededPreferred Qualifications• Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field strongly preferred• Meet or exceed Secretary of Interior Professional Qualifications Standards for Archeology• Strong understanding of and experience with the regulatory framework surrounding cultural resource management (i.e., Section 106, Section 4(f), and NEPA)• Willingness to work in and facilitate a productive team environment• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and analytical skills• Team player with strong ability take initiative and solve problems using sound judgment• Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects, scope, schedule and budget• Proven proposal development and client management skills• Strong leadership and supervision abilities, including problem solving, constructive conflict resolution, and decision making• Strong understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the process for identifying and evaluating archaeological sites and resolving adverse effects• GIS skills for data acquisition and interpretation preferred (experience with ArcGIS online and ESRI ArcPro• Current valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads is required• Willingness to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, remotely, sometimes in inclement weather, within natural environments, rugged terrain, or at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required• A demonstrated commitment to safety and qualityRequired Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field• A minimum of 10 years Archaeological experience, a minimum of 5 years experience in planning, managing and executing archeological investigations• Experience with Microsoft Office, Word and Excel• Proven ability to manage multiple field crews• Excellent communication and client interaction skills• Excellent oral and written communication skills• Requires ability to travel• Successful candidates must be familiar with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities• Must be able to handle cultural resources in a variety of geographic settings throughout the US• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a mustWhat We BelieveHDR is our company.
