Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.HDR is currently seeking a senior Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineer to lead engineering design tasks in the planning and design of fish hatcheries and aquaculture systems throughout the United States and Canada. The successful candidate will lead technical design task, perform engineering design, and expand their technical capabilities in the field. Experience in the design of upstream and downstream fish collection facilities, fish passage and screening, acclimation facilities, and aquaculture water treatment is desirable. We also welcome candidates with experience in engineering design of drinking water, wastewater, or raw water systems, pump stations, water or wastewater treatment, or water resource projects. Experience in the development of plans and specifications for bidding and construction is especially required. The successful candidate will join a strong fisheries team and have the opportunity to collaborate directly with nationally recognized senior fisheries engineers and biologists.Ideal candidates will have 10-15 years of fisheries engineering design experience.The preferred location for this position is in Washington (Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, Gig Harbor, Olympia, Pasco, Spokane) although other locations and hybrid arrangements may be possible depending on experience.Primary ResponsibilitiesIn the role of Fisheries Design Engineer, we'll count on you to:• Lead development of plans and specifications for bidding and construction documents of new and renovations to existing fish hatcheries and aquaculture facilities.• Develop designs to meet industry standards and federal and local codes, laws, and regulations, including development of engineering calculations, technical memoranda, reports, alternative development and evaluation, feasibility analysis, and long-term planning documents.• Communicate with and solicit input from owners, operations and maintenance staff, regulatory agencies, construction contractors, subconsultants, and other stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and direct communication. Communication will include development of and assistance with PowerPoint presentations, figures, conceptual drawings, meeting agendas, and meeting minutes.• Analyze existing and design new water supply, drainage and treatment systems, open channel conveyance systems, pressurized and open channel pipe networks, raw water intakes, site layouts, building function, concrete and earthen holding and rearing ponds and raceways, RAS and PRAS systems, pump stations, pollution abatement and settling ponds, and sorting, handling, storage, and mechanical/electrical buildings, as aligns with your technical experience.• Support development of cost estimates at planning, conceptual, preliminary, and final design phases.• Direct and guide work of CAD staff in the development of bid and construction drawings.• Provide engineering support during construction, including review of submittals, response to RFIs, and review and development of contract modifications.• Interact with clients, develop scopes of work and fee proposals, and manage projects.• Identify client needs and develop proposals with marketing staff. Lead marketing initiatives.• Perform other duties as neededRequired Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.• 10 years of experience participating directly in engineering design projects related to fish hatcheries, aquaculture, drinking water systems or treatment, wastewater systems or treatment, water intakes, pump stations, or water resource projects.• PE licensure.• Experience in the development of plans and specification for bidding or construction.• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Project).• Oral and written communication skills.• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.Preferred Qualifications• Master’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.• NCEES registration.• Extensive experience in the design, layout, and evaluation of fish hatcheries and aquaculture facilities.• Experience developing or incorporating bio-security, bio-programming, and RAS/PRAS.• Considerable knowledge of hatchery facility construction and maintenance requirements and techniques.• Understanding and experience with water resource infrastructure including fishery related projects, water conveyance, storm water networks, civil grading, water treatment, wastewater treatment and pump stations.• Experience developing individual or system-wide hatchery plans.• Experience with Tribal, State and Federal fish and wildlife program managers• Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion of tasks.• Experience working with BIM software (Revit and Civil 3D).• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.• Local residence or willing to relocateWhy HDRAt HDR, we know work isn't only about who you work for it's also about what you do and how you do it. The expected compensation range for this position is $96,359 - $166,635 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
