Job Scope
Leads and develops daily activities of a department or function. Uses significant independent judgment and
familiarity of the field to perform work. Responsible for administration of various complex departmental programs
and serves as the lead a group of employees. Develops policies and procedures and oversee implementation and
execution of them. Typically required to complete tasks of junior -level roles, when needed. Typically required to

performing highly complex assignments using expert skill & knowledge.
Position Summary
The Head Counselor, under the supervision of the Principal and the Director of Guidance, is responsible for
providing leadership to the campus Guidance and Counseling program. Counsel students to fully develop each
student’s academic, career, personal and social abilities and address the needs of special population students.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
1. Plans and implements a balanced, school guidance and counseling program to ensure they meet
identified needs, priorities, and program objectives.
2. Teaches campus developmental guidance curriculum consistent with district’s guidance program plan and
tailored to campus needs.
3. Provides guidance and support to teachers in the teaching of guidance-related curriculum.
4. Serves as the College Coordinator in working with colleagues, College Bound Advisors, Go Center Staff and
partners to ensure that all students are provided equal opportunities and access to College and Career
readiness activities.
5. Provides counseling to students individually or in small groups as needed.
6. Consults with parents, school personnel, and persons concerned help them increase the effectiveness of
student education and promote student success.
7. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with administrators, teacher, other school personnel,
parents, community members.
8. Collaborates with school and community personnel to provide resources for students.
9. Participates in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing programs.

10. Interprets tests and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students,
parents, and persons concerned.
11. Oversees and assures all counseling related duties assigned to the counselors are accomplished.
12. Responsible for gathering, maintaining, and disseminating information to district stakeholders, students,
parents, and the community; promote guidance and counseling program/services.
13. Participates in district and campus staff development programs to expand their knowledge base, learn
new practices and techniques, and embrace new technology.
14. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
15. Submits status reports on progress of college and career/guidance program/activities monthly and /or as
requested.
16. Serves as the liaison between counselors and administration.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities
expected for this position.
