ABOUT THIS ROLE
As Audible Studios continues to revolutionize audio entertainment, we are seeking to hire a Head of Creative Development to manage the creative development team, oversee creative content, help shape the Audible original content’s vision and voice, and develop and implement creative strategies. Reporting to the Head of Audible Studios, the Head of Creative Development will best help us differentiate and elevate our programming with podcasts, fiction and nonfiction; scripted and non-scripted content; new ideas for series and stories; and short- and long-form projects that go beyond the current boundaries of audio content. This also includes aligning creative and business goals, while supervising staff and budgets. In addition, the Head of Creative Development will inspire the generation of creative ideas, content and concepts, oversee development, planning and production, and seek new business opportunities that allow us to monetize, expand, and promote our content.

As a Head of Creative Development, you will…
  • Lead and manage the Audible Creative Development team
  • Effectively articulate strategy and influence the team and cross-functional teams to deliver on behalf of our customers
  • Problem-solve creatively with senior creative executives to ensure shows are delivered on time and within budget
  • Organize intake process and ascertain which content is ripe for Development
  • Work on Audible Original content slate; create high quality, must-listen stories that attract new listeners, retain existing audience and build loyalty to our Audible brand
  • Develop and oversee audio productions
  • Push the envelope of innovation in creating bold, original stories that appeal to different segments of our audience
  • Bring management experience and an aptitude for leadership
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively among cross-functional teams, from dealmakers to marketing executives to audio production teams
  • Demonstrate sound judgement through skilled execution of responsibilities, consistent leadership and management skills, and an ability to inspire and teach
  • Deliver high quality content from concept to production
  • Think about user experience and usability, accessibility, and meeting user needs with content
  • Partner with internal teams, such as programming, data insights and marketing
  • Manage and build relationships both internally and externally
  • Drive outreach, reputation and revenue with content
  • Adapt existing content for new geographical locations
  • Proactively oversee processes and make timely decisions
  • Streamline communications between departments to simplify processes
  • Support, advocate, build and develop team and members

Basic Qualifications
  • 10+ years of managerial experience working in a media/new media, editorial or content leadership role within media
  • 10+ years of experience in creative development, production and or creative direction
  • Experience leading strategy, managing, and creating or producing content for a commercial audience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working in a B2C industry, understanding and delivering on behalf of customers
  • Proven track record of managing a team of senior creative executives
  • Strong background overseeing projects from concept to completion
  • Excellent planning and organization skills
  • Ability to multi task and juggle massive workloads
  • A persuasive and passionate communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of audio production, as well as the craft of audio and sound artistry
  • Ability to supervise, train and evaluate employees
  • Creative problem solving with thoughtful consideration
  • Excellent writing, speaking and “customer service” skills are essential
  • Is solution based and has a sense of urgency in resolving issues
  • Has integrity and a strong moral compass
  • Understands budget tracking and resource allocations
  • Shares knowledge and provides feedback
  • Is thoughtful with a high degree of emotional intelligence
  • Working well under pressure in a fast-paced digital environment
  • Understanding of the evolving media landscape
