We're Collective Benefits.
Right now, the people who care for our families, pack our produce and deliver our parcels face a fragile financial existence. And that’s not right. We believe they deserve to live and work without compromise. So we’re doing something about it.
At Collective, we’re enabling companies with the right intentions to provide the right protections. Working directly with the on demand platforms propelling our economy forward. Helping them ramp up recruitment and retention, increase engagement and protect their people. All at the same time. Together, we’re making independent work, work for everyone.
We’ve got backing from the people behind Deliveroo, Zoopla and Cazoo, some of the most prestigious and well known VCs in the world:
We have been featured in The Economist, Sifted and Forbes (to name a few). And as we expand operations across the UK and Europe, we're on a mission to make independent work, work for everyone.
What you will be doing:
As Head of People at Collective Benefits, your mission is to develop and implement the overall People strategy. We are looking for an individual that’s passionate about employee experience. You have a track record of developing great company culture delivered through core values and the building of programmes that attract and retain great talent.
You will have overall responsibility for:
Leadership
-
Acting as a trusted advisor on strategic initiatives to the Executive Leadership Team, and other senior leaders, to deliver business objectives.
- Build and lead the People & Talent teams as we grow; recruiting and developing the expertise we need to build a world class People function.
- Support and guide managers at all levels in the organisation with how best to manage and further their teams.
- Provide advice on internal communications to ensure we bring the team with us on the exciting journey ahead.
Company Culture
- Lead on programming company culture and values to ensure that these are woven into the fabric of Collective.
- Build our people operations across the employee experience to ensure that they not only deliver our values but also are able to scale; whether it’s delivering a brilliant onboarding experience, performance enablement or succession planning, every aspect should be honed and crafted.
- Build our people analytics to measure the impact of programmes, drive decision making and apply that data to further evolve programming with the ultimate aim of improving team engagement and commitment.
Org Design
- Working with the Executive Leadership Team and broader Leadership Team to ensure that our org design sets us up for success, allowing speed of decision making and autonomy alongside cohesion and alignment.
- Focus on building our teams, ensuring that we have the right people in the right roles at the right time.
- Designing for scale and growth, having a firm grip on what we need today and a clear view of what we will need tomorrow.
Learning & Development
- Ensuring Collective’s teams have access to great growth and learning opportunities to enable high performance and to support them to achieve their goals.
- Crafting and defining progression paths for our people so that we can retain top talent and provide an opportunity for our team to grow their careers with us.
- Work across the organisation to ensure we are setting our teams up to perform to the top of their potential
Reward
- Lead on the evolution of our Pay Philosophy, and the associated processes.
- Ensure that we have a leading approach to benefits and keep up with market data to ensure we stay competitive.
- Enable a culture of recognition that is aligned with our values.
Three reasons this role is great:
- This role is at the heart of how we take Collective from good to great; investing in our people, building our culture and building our company.
- You get to join a smart and motivated business, and be a part of directly supporting their growth strategy and maintaining its awesome culture
- You get to make a difference - we’re building a business that will provide the protections that flexible workers badly need.
You should join us if:
- You have substantial experience building start-ups and are comfortable with the myriad of challenges that comes with building a winning company culture. This is the number one thing we’re looking for.
- You’re a leader who approaches the employee experience as a product; one that requires design, feedback and iteration to deliver the best results.
- You think deeply about organisational design and team building both at a macro and micro level.
- You don’t think like a traditional people leader; HR & CIPD are not at the centre of your CV, if they’re on it at all.
- You’re a strategic thinker who excels in execution; not afraid to take ownership to lead the delivery of outstanding programming.
- You have a strong EQ, with great interpersonal and communication abilities (written and oral); skilled in communicating with diverse settings, both 1:1 and in large groups).
- You’re straight talking, direct and comfortable managing conflict when required.
You will need:
- Significant experience in a senior People, Org Design or Talent role in a fast scaling business - you will need to know what great looks like.
- A desire to do it again and do it better; having contributed previously to building a winning company, you’re ready, willing and relish the challenge of doing it again.
- Demonstrable experience of building and implementing people programming whether from scratch or evolving or revolutionising what exists.
- A high EQ and good sense of human psychology.
- You’re comfortable with data, with experience running employee pulse (engagement) surveys.
- Experience benchmarking and implementing compensation frameworks - both pay, performance and equity - to retain top talent
- Experience managing tricky situations; not all employees work out and you know how to mitigate the impact of this upon the individual, their teams and the organisation.
- Experience of leading, building, managing and coaching your team to deliver results.
The nuts and bolts:
- You must be comfortable with a fast-moving pace of work, and getting involved in a range of tasks and projects relating to your role
- Smart, inquisitive, and have a willingness to sink your teeth into the role
- Knowledge of (or a keen interest in) the future of work is a significant plus
