Manager: Director of Marketing & Communications
This role will be responsible for the Public Affairs function and, in conjunction with the Director of Marketing & Communications, develop a public affairs strategy and appropriate policy positions on key issues affecting Carbon Clean.
The Head of Policy & Public Affairs will lead relations with a range of stakeholders including Ministers, MPs and Peers as well as business organisations, think tanks and sector bodies with whom we share common interests.
The post holder will play a key role in enhancing Carbon Clean’s external brand reputation, working closely with Leadership and key stakeholders across the business.
The critical outcome of this role is the evolution of the best possible legislative environment for Carbon Clean to do business in all of our markets.
- Development and implementation of the policy and public affairs strategy, and appropriate policy positions, on key issues affecting Carbon Clean; leading on advancing Carbon Clean’s interests with the UK Government, US DOE, industry regulators, local government, NGOs, and key international territory governments
- Regular interaction with Ministers, politicians, and civil servants to keep them informed of Carbon Clean’s policy position in different areas, ensuring the Leadership Team is informed of upcoming public policy changes and that they create an optimum trading environment for Carbon Clean
- Preparation of high quality briefing materials for senior internal stakeholders and customers on policy issues and major Government announcements
- Timely production of policy news and responses to all major policy consultations affecting Carbon Clean with consultation from relevant stakeholders
- Collaboration with our Legal function around external policy changes, working with our external Communications team to derive positive publicity from our positions
- Assisting Carbon Clean’s CEO and Chair in his role as an SMI taskforce member, ensuring Carbon Clean’s influence is maximised
- Management of industry association memberships, representing Carbon Clean on applicable groups
- Organising of impactful events on public policy issues
- Organising and hosting site visits for major external stakeholders e.g. Ministers.
To be successful in this role you should have a combination of the below knowledge, skills, and experience:
- BA/BS degree in a relevant subject essential or equivalent industry experience
- Extensive political experience and relevant policy knowledge with demonstrable success in achieving lobbying goals, working with a complex range of stakeholders with differing views
- Must have a commercial mindset with the ability to review complex policy and regulatory developments, spot risks and opportunities, and work across the business to develop clear positions and plans that are well targeted and impactful
- Regularly exercises judgement and makes decisions in ambiguous situations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-starter with a strong work-ethic and business acumen
- Adaptability: able to pivot in new or changing situations
