Healthcare Research Analyst

AB Arya Partners (“Arya”) is a separate business unit within AllianceBernstein L.P. (AB). AllianceBernstein is composed of five separate business units. Arya is fundamental long/short equity-focused multi-manager platform investing across industries and geographies.
Job Description:
As a healthcare focused Research Analyst, you will:
  • Gain insight to the challenging dynamics of working on an equity focused, long/short, multi-manager hedge-fund platform.
  • Acquire expertise working with a Portfolio Manager who is a seasoned US and European Healthcare sector expert.
  • Learn a process driven model for fundamental, in-depth analysis of an industry and subset of companies, and make contributions to forward-looking financial analysis.
  • Interact with trading, management, and other research teams across the firm.
The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist in the construction and management of a portfolio of long/short equity & related instruments with a focus on generating high idiosyncratic returns.
  • Perform diligent & deep dive fundamental research on universe of investments.
  • Focus on commercial stage biotech and pharma companies.
  • Update individual models & research notes on stock ideas on a regular basis in keeping with the investment and compliance process requirements.
  • Analyze news, events, and catalysts (i.e. scientific and clinical trial data).
  • Attend conferences and industry events, while forging relationships with the relevant sell side analysts, salespeople, and research peers.

The Arya Research Analyst will support a New York based US and European Healthcare Portfolio Manager, within AllianceBernstein’s Arya Partners business unit.

Qualifications, Experience, Education:
A candidate should possess:
  • Advanced science degree in medicine, biology, or pharmacology (MD, PhD, PharmD, Masters)
  • 2-5 years job experience in finance which must include sellside or buyside (long only or hedge fund) experience
  • Excellent broad-based analytical skills with a strong quantitative background (may have credentials such as the CFA or CPA)
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Relentless intellectual curiosity and a drive to excel at the highest level
  • A consummate team player who seeks a highly rigorous and collegial environment for their career development.

In accordance with Section 8-107(32) as set forth in the New York City Human Rights Law, the minimum and maximum base annual salary for this role is as follows:
Base Salary Range: $140,000-$150,000
Actual base salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, past performance, and other job-related factors. Base salary is just one component of total compensation at AB, which may include, depending on eligibility, commissions, year-end incentive compensation, short- and long-term incentives and Department-specific awards. In addition, AB provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, sick and vacation time off.
