As a Senior Database Engineer - PostgreSQL you will be a critical contributor to Healthie’s Platform Engineering team. The Healthie product is one of the most important pieces of digital infrastructure in the healthcare landscape, and increasingly so every day. The Platform team is responsible for the infrastructure and reliability of this platform. Our roadmaps are always designed with the goal of achieving the best possible outcomes. Joining our platform team of specialists, you will bring your expertise in PostgreSQL database design and deployment. You will play a transformative role in how we deploy, scale (both horizontally and vertically), monitor, and refine our PostgreSQL databases, directly enhancing Healthie's data model.
Strong familiarity with ORMs, in particular Rails/ActiveRecord, is a big plus!
Responsibilities: What you’ll be doing and held accountable for:
Amazon AWS RDS Aurora Postgres deployment, operation, and performance at scale.
Primary Responsibilities
- Leading and owning our transition from standalone Postgres instances hosted on a PAAS to Aurora
- Administration of production, QA, and development database infrastructure
- Database Infrastructure Setup, Configuration, upgrading/Patching, Monitoring and solving
- Maintain automation scripts for database infrastructure
- Design and execute standard and robust methodologies for partitioning tables, archiving data, and accessing archived data
- Design and execute zero- or minimal-downtime upgrades
- Design, test, and (hopefully never) execute disaster recovery solutions
- Measurement and optimization of system performance
- Best practices configuration and tuning of postgres for performance, maintenance, and availability
- Capacity planning and forecast management
- Continually improving performance and security instrumentation.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Observing application behavior to prioritize opportunities for query improvements
- Becoming expertly familiar with application schema in order to maintain a medium- and long-term roadmap
- Collaborating with feature-dev squads to facilitate schema and query improvements
- Identify problem areas and collaborate with squads to identify and address concerns.

Logistics
Location: Remote, within the United States (this is a Full Time W-2 position)
U.S. work authorization is required, Healthie does not provide sponsorship.
The base salary for this role is $160,000- $185,000 per year + annual company bonus and benefits
The target salary range for this position is part of a competitive total rewards package. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually at minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
