DIGITAL CONTENT PRODUCERThe Times Union newsroom is seeking two enterprising, audience-focused and versatile journalists to manage and create content serving New York's Capital Region and beyond. Producers curate and package stories from multiple sources, including the editorial staff, and publish across all digital platforms, including our website, app, newsletters, and social media accounts.Your duties on the team:• Plan for, post and package stories on timesunion.com. This includes adding links, photos, and other related assets, and sending breaking news emails and app alerts.• Monitor and act on website analytics, making content decisions that drive traffic.• Write headlines for digital audiences, optimized for search engines and social platforms.• Optimize the day's big stories and evergreen content.• Contribute to digital projects, including photo galleries, restaurant guides, real estate spotlights and more. Work with digital project managers, editors and writers on innovative packages and new ways of storytelling.• Assist the social media manager, posting content under their direction on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.Skills you bring to the team:• Working knowledge of tactics to maximize reach and build an audience.• Understanding of best practices for audience engagement and the ability to implement that knowledge.• Idea generation and collaboration: Keep fresh ideas flowing and work with others to shape ideas into compelling stories that connect with readers across the region.• Excellent writing and communication chops.• Top-notch organization skills, assuring audience needs and deadlines are met.Requirements:• Some news writing experience and familiarity with AP Style.• Awareness of media standards around fair use and accurate citation for content.• Knowledge of web and social media analytics tools, content management systems and search optimization platforms.• Basic knowledge of HTML.• Sound news judgment and strong understanding of local content.• Ability to work effectively in a small organization that emphasizes teamwork.• Demonstrated success working in a deadline-driven environment.• Proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks and/or projects.These are full-time positions and will include working on Saturday or Sunday each week. One position will have early morning hours (6:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.); the other will include evening hours (noon to 8 p.m.). Other shifts or hours may be required as news warrants.The Times Union is investing in digital journalism.
