HEAT Project Management Student Assistant – Fall 2023 - ICL

The Health Emerging and Advanced Technologies (HEAT) Division in the Information and Communications Laboratory (ICL) seeks Student Assistant candidates to work as assistant project managers (PM) within our group at the Georgia Tech-Atlanta campus. This position would be responsible for working on projects related to health data informatics and health data interoperability. In this role, we expect you to work with a team of project managers, developers, data scientists, and software engineers to assist with managing projects that are working to craft innovative solutions for problems within public health, or support clinical health systems and related research.

As a HEAT PM SA, work opportunities consist of attending and documenting meetings, assisting with creation of deliverable documentation, overall project organization, and working with the technical team to test code and software. Projects in our group range from building interoperable backbones for Large Scale Mapping Tools, to defining Sickle Cell Disease phenotypes, to using FHIR to craft proof-of-concept systems, to building FHIR pipelines for mortality data, and so on.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Student Assistant/Research Assistant

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, or related field
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters
  • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with remote teams and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Interest in healthcare, public health, health data
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas, especially to an audience that may be less technical in background
  • Experience using code repositories, e.g. git and GitHub
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to learn complex data structure concepts
  • Ability to pick up new information quickly and apply it to tasking
  • Familiarity with Linux and open-source tools
  • Java, C#, or Python programming skills; SQL a plus
