Eliot is seeking an Overnight Awake Counselor to work within our Safe Haven site for formerly homeless women. The ideal candidate will have unwavering compassion and obvious dedication to fostering recovery to the greatest extent possible within collaborative relationships with people served."
The Safe Haven Shelter for Women is a transitional shelter open 24 hours/day for homeless women with severe and persistent mental illness living on the streets in Back Bay, Boston Common, and Downtown Crossing. The shelter provides daytime drop-in services and overnight accommodations for six adult women. The program also offers nursing assessment, counseling, case management and housing. Our goal is to assist residents in finding permanent supportive housing.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that consumers are treated with dignity and respect. This includes but is not limited to: assisting consumers in maintaining their appearance; supporting consumers' cultural and religious preferences; not imposing any
restrictions without consultation with clinical team and HRC; ensuring restrictions are limited and personal possessions are protected.
- Empower consumers to exercise control over their lives, including daily routines and leisure activities. Includes informing consumers of choices in all areas of daily living to promote individual control.
- Assist consumers with being fully integrated in their communities by supporting them in the use of community resources, encouraging them in establishing memberships within their communities and reducing stigma within the community through education.
- Ensure the safety of consumers, implementing crisis intervention as necessary. Includes but not limited to: use of deescalating modes of communication/ interaction to ensure consumer’s safety, stability, mental status, and physical health.
- Provide and maintain therapeutic boundaries and a professional relationship with consumers.
Schedule: 10:00pm to 8:00am; Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (30 hours)
Location: Boston, on-site
Hourly rate: $17.25/ hour
6% salary increase for bilingual candidates for needed languages.
