The College of Arts & Sciences is the hub of learning, research, and academic excellence at the University of Oregon. With nearly 50 departments and programs representing the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, the high quality of our programs is the main reason the University of Oregon is one of only 65 universities in the prestigious Association of American Universities.
The CAS Business Office (CBO) provides services in the areas of budget and finance, accounting and purchasing, grants, human resources, stewardship administration, and event services to departments within the College of Arts and Sciences.
The mission of the CAS Business Office is to provide consistency through centralized services, offering our expertise in processing a wide variety of business operation transactions and functions, including acting as a liaison to the Business Affairs Office, Purchasing and Contracting Services, University Human Resources, Payroll Administration, and Sponsored Project Services, Stewardship Administration, and Event Services. We are committed to providing superior customer service and creating partnerships with our customers to ensure their needs are fulfilled to the highest standard.
This position reports directly to the CBO’s HR Operations and Payroll Manager and assists the supervisor with the ongoing operations and direction of CAS’s pay action and monthly time entry workflows and policies. The position provides critical and confidential personnel support to all CAS units supported by the CBO, including payroll, pay actions, and employment contracts. This position will focus on generating and submitting personnel and pay actions, monthly time entry, and interpreting rules, regulations, and policies in these areas.
The HR Operations and Payroll Specialist routinely works with employees and supervisors in the eight CAS Academic Support Units that provide administrative support to our departments and programs. This position is responsible for taking in requests for pay actions (for example, stipends, FTE changes, non-payroll earnings, salary overloads, summer research, and teaching appointments) from assigned ASUs or employee groups, advising ASUs on policy and procedure with regard to pay actions, orienting new ASU staff to the CAS’s payroll and pay action workflows and policies, collaborating on new workflows and processes with the supervisor and ASU managers and staff, and processing monthly time entry for up to 500 employees in assigned areas. The incumbent liaises frequently with ASU personnel to ensure a smooth ASU-CBO relationship and positive employee experience.
This position requires the ability to function highly independently with general supervision and work assignments from the HR Operations and Payroll Manager.
