What Your Job Will Be Like


Organization 03502-3, HR Solutions - Benefits and Compensation, is seeking an HR Solutions Benefits Specialist to join our team!

The selected candidate will be responsible for providing and guiding resolution on Benefits operational inquiries that are beyond the routine level of complexity. The successful candidate will analyze, troubleshoot, and research the issue, and takes appropriate action to resolve or further raise the issue to resolution.

This position specializes in policies and processes supporting Benefits functional transactional work and has an in-depth understanding of established policies and programs within HR.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Guide the Benefits operations team work to ensure high quality interactions, deliverables, and operational results
  • Serve as HR Solutions (HRS) team Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Benefits operational processes, programs, and policies
  • Escalate in-scope, complex cases to HR SME's with appropriate and complete documentation on work performed to date with follow-through until an issue is adequately resolved
  • Mentor and train members of the HRS Benefits team
  • Perform quality reviews of team’s work with minimum direction
  • Coordinate with HR Solutions Process Specialists and other HRS Specialists to identify and improve the operational effectiveness of HR Solutions teams
  • Complete special projects for HR Solutions Benefits, as assigned by the Team Lead
  • Provide help navigating internal resources on self-service and HR technology tools
  • Respond to electronic employee requests for HR tool support and guidance on reports
  • Manage workload efficiently to fulfill commitments in a timely manner
  • Assist other team members with assigned case load management

The HR Solutions Benefits Specialist will work under direction from the HR Solutions Benefits & Compensation Team Leader to ensure HR service delivery is consistently high-quality and will collaborate with the Benefits functional area and third-party providers.

Salary Range


$56,100 - $125,400

  • Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance

  • Experience developing solutions to specific problems related to issues of moderate scope, complexity, and impact
  • Experience in Benefits in a proven customer service orientation
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, think tactically and strategically, demonstrate objectivity, be results oriented, and show initiative and creativity
  • The ability to protect and keep personally identifiable information (PII), personal health information, and other information confidential
  • A positive demeanor, strong communication skills, and keen attention to detail with the demonstrated ability to team well with others
  • Strong computer skills and technical capabilities (e.g., Microsoft Office, Oracle Service Cloud, Peoplesoft, etc.)
  • The ability to decode customer expectations, earn trust through results, influence/relate to others, and connect people through technology
  • The ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values

Posting Duration

Security Clearance


Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs


If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
