Job Description

We’re currently searching for an HR Assistant to join our Human Resources team in Blacksburg, VA, to help support the programs and services of Student Affairs. So, if you are an organized, customer service-focused individual with an eye for detail and a love of team collaboration, this could be the job for you!


HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ROLE:
1) You’ll be joining the Human Resources function in the Division of Student Affairs; a team of driven HR professionals who believe that student success starts with the workforce that supports them.
2) You’ll be responsible for monitoring, entering, transmitting, filing, and communicating HR transactions for the Division of Student Affairs.
3) You’ll collaborate and partner with members of the Student Affairs HR team and members of the Department Admin Partners Network (DAPN) to process timely transactions.
4) You’ll oversee a significant portion of the communication to employees through electric mediums such as SharePoint, Teams, Twilio, and Outlook; as they relate to the HR functional areas of recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement.
5) You’ll be reporting directly to the Division of Student Affairs Human Resources Director.
6) You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $40,000-$45,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in human resources, or related field, and/or equivalent experience working in a fast-paced office environment.
Previous experience in:
  • Maintaining highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Exercising strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Managing multiple, complex projects and day-to-day operations independently and proactively while meeting established deadlines.
  • Learning and mastering processes, especially those that are time sensitive and require multi-level follow-through.
  • Using Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Working as a team member while also successfully thriving as an individual.
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize a variety of competing demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.
Previous experience in:
  • The functional areas of recruitment and retention and/or employee engagement.
  • A college or university setting.
  • Online systems such as Banner HRIS, PageUp, or similar Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) or Learning Management Systems (LMS), Canva or Twilio, and/or DocuSign
