The general hourly range for this position is $25 - $30 Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training, and education.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal protection organization, is seeking a Humane Policy Volunteer Leader Program Specialist for the Outreach, Engagement, and Training department. Under the direction of the Program Director, you will support all aspects of volunteer program management including recruitment, training, tracking actions, communication, and ensuring accurate volunteer records. Support the Humane Policy Volunteer Leaders through prompt and courteous communication, engagement on social media, and technical assistance with the volunteer database, as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining accurate volunteer records. Tracking volunteers’ actions and accomplishments on policy work and compiling data for monthly and annual reports;
- Managing the application and interview process. Supporting evaluation and recognition efforts. Supervising administrative volunteers, as needed;
- Managing the program email account including responding to prospective volunteer inquiries and providing support to current volunteers in a timely manner. Assisting with the management and maintenance of program social media pages. Assisting volunteers with navigating the volunteer database and other online systems;
- Assisting with the dissemination of legislative action alerts and the maintenance of documents and educational resources;
- Assisting with volunteer gatherings, legislative meetings, lobby days, conferences, and other events as needed;
- Train and oversee administrative volunteers to assist with general tasks like relating to the Humane Policy Volunteer Program as needed;
- Performing other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred;
- A minimum of two (2) years in office administration required;
- Experience engaging, motivating, and building relationships with volunteers preferred.
- Experience in a non-profit environment preferred;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms. Comfortable learning new software and database systems;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Knowledge of managing Facebook and other social media platforms preferred;
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive;
- Ability to multitask and be flexible regarding workload and assignments;
- Ability to exercise sound judgment;
- Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
- Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member;
- Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
