This is an exciting opportunity within the Strategic Communications department to develop and deliver internal communications campaigns, events, and projects that foster an engaged and informed workforce.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead and contribute to the continuous improvement of Council's internal communications channels, including the end-to-end delivery of internal communications campaigns. Foster strong relationships with leadership and cross-functional teams to identify communication gaps and ensure cohesive messaging that aligns with the organisation’s goals and culture.
- Act as a brand advocate, positioning Hume City Council’s values and achievements prominently, while encouraging employees to embody and promote the brand both internally and externally.
- Lead the content strategy for Hume City Council’s LinkedIn and other platforms to highlight staff successes and promote the organisation as an employer of choice.
- Support delivery of the corporate events calendar, including our annual employee recognition event.
- Maintain and optimise the intranet, SharePoint, and other digital platforms to ensure they serve as effective, engaging resources for staff, promoting timely and relevant information sharing.
- Provide guidance and training to teams on effective internal communication practices and the proficient use of SharePoint and other digital tools for collaboration.
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:
- Demonstrated experience supporting internal/ corporate communications initiatives and campaigns.
- Demonstrated high-level writing, editing, proofing skills with a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical information and write clearly for a wide range of audiences in a variety of styles.
- Demonstrated significant experience in planning, developing, and implementing internal communications strategies using printed publications, social media, online and digital communications to achieve organisational objectives.
- A strong understanding of local, state, and federal government and experience working in a political environment.
- Ability to gain the cooperation and assistance of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, to achieve the objectives of this position.
- Specialist written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to write in a clear, concise, and understandable manner.
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications, public relations, or journalism with demonstrated experience in this field, or less formal qualifications with substantial experience in a marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or similar position.
- Current driver’s licence.
