IMO Health is a clinical data intelligence business improving how data is used across the healthcare landscape. For all IMO Health positions, if you live in the Greater Chicagoland Area, Houston, TX, or Roseville, CA, you’ll be expected to work from any IMO Health office 2 days per week. 


At IMO Health, a core team of AI experts, biomedical scientists, software developers, and data scientists combine computer science and biomedical expertise to help patients and healthcare professionals' access high-quality health information quickly and easily to improve total patient health.


We are looking for an exceptional NLP Engineer to lead the charge in pushing the boundaries of NLP/AI research within the life sciences. As part of our dynamic R&D team, you will work alongside other talented researchers to pioneer innovative NLP/AI technologies and algorithms. Your expertise will be instrumental in identifying and developing cutting-edge NLP/AI solutions that address critical challenges in the life sciences. You will also collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to translate research findings into impactful products. 


What you'll do:
  • Lead the research, strategy, design and implementation of NLP/AI products from prototype to deployment 
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external clients to understand requirements, and design innovative NLP/AI solutions   
  • Develop and validate cutting-edge NLP algorithms, including large language models tailored for healthcare and bio-pharma use cases 
  • Translate complex technical insights into accessible language for non-technical stakeholders  
  • Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth  
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences 
  • Engage with the broader scientific community by attending conferences, workshops, and collaborating on research projects  


What you'll need:
  • Ph.D. or Master’s Degree in Biomedical NLP, Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, Computational Linguistics, Mathematics, or other related fields  
  • Strong background in natural language processing, LLM, machine learning, and statistical modeling 
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in NLP, such as Python, Java, or R 
  • Solid understanding of machine learning techniques and experience with relevant libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) is highly desirable 
  • Experience working with healthcare data, particularly EHRs and clinical notes, is highly desirable 
  • Strong understanding of client operations and experience managing client deliveries is highly desirable 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment 
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality NLP solutions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment 
  • Publication records in leading computer science or biomedical informatics journals and conferences is highly desirable
  • Located in Houston, TX, or Chicago, IL is strongly preferred.
