The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager will assist with promoting a safe work environment and a positive safety culture and support EHS leadership with all aspects of occupational safety, employee health, and environmental compliance. They will assist in the training and coaching of employees with safety programs and safe work practices. Multiple responsibilities surrounding data gathering, structuring, and prioritizing in order to identify safety trends, practices, and metrics.
The EHS manager will assist in the development and implementation of EHS policies, standards, programs and processes.
The EHS Manager builds collaborative and productive working relationships; networks with, and appropriately involves key internal and external stakeholders; influences functional and operational EHS strategies.
This role will travel between the Redwood City and Oakland worksites.
Essential Job Functions:- Will coordinate and oversee outside vendors for various services provided for safety compliance and environmental regulatory requirements.
- Will support the manufacturing plant, R&D, and piloting operations in the areas of safety, waste management, recycling, and emergency response.
- Responsible for supporting the Environmental portion of the EHS team in the management of hazardous waste, preparing waste for disposal, tracking of data and manifests, and completing all reports, as well as any additional environmental requirements.
- Responsible for site safety inspections (in manufacturing, piloting spaces and R&D lab/kitchen spaces), safety equipment checks, and using instruments to collect data and evaluate work areas.
- The EHS Manager will support development of the safety culture in support of overall Corporate EHS goals and objectives. Tracks and reports facility EHS goals according to key metrics (ex- lost time accidents).
- Will support compliance with SQF and regulatory requirements.
- Will ensure site-specific programs to train supervisors, employees and vendors are continuously updated as needed, and annually thereafter. Programs will meet corporate standards and meet regulatory requirements. Will ensure all necessary training is provided to employees and vendors.
- Manage regulatory agency and external stakeholder EHS activities, including reporting, visits, or inspections.
- Work collaboratively with Employment Legal Counsel, Human Resources, Facilities, and IT teams to develop cross functional risk management policy and processes that protect Impossible Foods.
Basic Qualifications:- Actively engage with the workforce to promote a safety culture of awareness and self-responsibility.
- Must have experience with applicable local and state safety and environmental regulations as well as other applicable Federal regulations.
- Requires a minimum of 3 years Environmental, Health and Safety experience in a food processing or manufacturing environment.
- Requires experience implementing EHS practices in a lab and manufacturing setting.
- Develop, implement, maintain and continuous improvement of all occupational safety policies, processes and procedures.
- Performs inspections and audits relating to occupational safety and recommends corrective measures. Will assign action item owners and track items to completion.
- Be responsible for all required reports, metrics and information to EHS Management and company Management in a timely manner.
- Work directly with Supervisors to ensure accident, incident, and near miss investigations are thorough and completed with assigned corrective actions.
- Must have demonstrated industry practices knowledge and experience implementing policies and procedures. Can resolve issues in innovative as well as practical ways.
- Excellent PC skills including Google Suite, Microsoft Office applications and technical writing ability.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with attention to detail.
- Strong problem solving skills, written and verbal communication skills.
- In conjunction with the Facilities team and Lab team, manage the hazardous waste, and prepare waste for disposal, track data and manifests, and complete all reports.
- Experience with managing Environmental programs to include, but not limited to: Hazardous Waste, Storm Water, applicable permit submission and management, annual/biennial reporting, audits, etc.
- Must have the ability to travel to the Redwood City and Oakland work sites.
Preferred Qualifications:- BS in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, or a related field is required.
- Certification or course work in occupational safety and environmental related programs is required.
- Experience working with local regulatory agencies is preferred.
- EHS professional membership, registration and/or certification from an accredited organization.
- Experience managing direct reports.
$111,000 - $177,600 a year
For positions based in Redwood City and Oakland, we offer the above salary range + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
