In Vitro ADME Scientist

6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR).

NIBR is the innovation engine of Novartis, with a focus on discovering innovative new drugs that will change the practice of medicine. We have an open and entrepreneurial culture, encouraging collaboration internally and externally with academic groups and within industry alliances to make effective therapies. Growing the area of new modality therapeutics is part of the longer-term strategic plan and investment of Novartis, and this role will facilitate the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) optimization of new modality therapeutics in close collaboration with other line functions and disease areas at NIBR.

New drug modalities including oligonucleotides, antibody-drug conjugates or AAV gene therapies have the potential to target previously undruggable diseases. Come join the In Vitro ADME group in Pharmacokinetic Sciences (PKS) at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) to help unlock these innovative medicines and bring improved treatments to patients in need.

The In Vitro ADME group within PKS is looking for a highly motivated multi-disciplinary team-oriented scientist with a cell biology background and experience on characterizing in vitro cellular disposition of non-traditional therapeutics. The selected candidate will provide support for a diverse portfolio that includes oligonucleotides, antibody-drug conjugates, targeted bi-functional degraders, and other molecules in the beyond rule-of-5 property space.

Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshooting, development, and validation of new ADME cell-based assays and technologies to support pre-clinical project teams.
  • Design and conduct cell culture experiments to profile compounds beyond rule-of-5 property.
  • Investigate protein and cellular binding, cellular uptake, trafficking, endosomal escape, and the metabolic fate of small and large molecules.
  • Present results at departmental forums as well as to project teams and contribute to publication in scientific journals.
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members.

  • Understanding of bioanalysis utilizing LC-MS with special emphasis on large molecules (e. g. oligonucleotides) and the application to in vitro ADME sample analysis in a drug discovery setting is desirable.
  • Experience with high content imaging platforms and laboratory automation systems is preferable.
  • Experience with cell culture (2D and 3D) and molecular biology techniques such as immunofluorescence, qPCR, ELISA or FACS and their application to the intracellular fate of molecules in the beyond rule-of-5 property space is highly desirable.
  • A good understanding of laboratory equipment and associated software is desirable.
  • Strong experimental and problem-solving skills, excellent collaboration and communication skills (both written and oral), and an eagerness to learn.
  • Time management skills and ability to work in a team-based drug discovery/development environment.
