Health Service is accredited by AAAHC and provides high quality health care to its students Monday through Friday during the school year. The CRNP works in the expanded and independent role of advanced professional nursing in the treatment of students. Responsibilities include providing diagnosis and treatment of medical concerns presented by students. The position requires critical thinking, strong physical assessment skills, strong written/verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. A knowledge and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles is essential. An employee in this class is responsible for a broad range of health care services including medical assessment and prescription of therapeutic measures, promotion and maintenance of health, prevention of illness and disability, care during phases of illness, guidance and counseling of students/patients and families, and referral to other health care providers and community resources.
A successful candidate must have knowledge of the theories and practices of professional nursing; knowledge of the theory and practice of preventive health care and public health care; knowledge of disease processes and their signs and symptom; skill in the application of techniques used in performing physical examinations; ability to assess routine laboratory and diagnostic test results; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and health team members; ability to recognize changes in patients’ overall conditions and signs and symptoms that warrant immediate attention. Experience working with college age populations is preferred.

Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday
8:30am-5:00pm or 8:00-4:30 based on preference
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
• Develops individualized health profiles to assess the physical and psychosocial status of students/patients by taking health and developmental histories; assesses and performs findings of histories and physical examinations of students/patients; analyzes, evaluates, and interprets clinical laboratory data and diagnostic tests; and sets forth appropriate medical care in accordance with established medical protocols.
• Orders necessary laboratory studies, X-rays, and diagnostic studies, interprets results, making distinction between normal and abnormal findings. Identifies abnormalities and determines plan of care.
• Develops and evaluates a comprehensive primary medical treatment plan for individual students/patients, and initiates adjustments and corrections in collaboration with the supervising physician or registered nurse supervisor. The medical treatment plan includes diagnosis, treatment plan development, and appropriate ongoing treatment plan evaluation and modification, in accordance with established medical protocols.
• Performs and monitors therapeutic procedures outlined in the comprehensive medical treatment plan such as oxygen therapy and intravenous administration, and performs a variety of minor procedures such as suturing, splinting, and casting, as authorized.
• Evaluates students'/patients' capability to perform self-care activities, educates and counsels students/patients and family members and/or legal guardians to the nature and course of illness, disability, medication regimen, tests, and treatment procedures.
• Makes referrals to appropriate health care providers, including physicians, mental health professionals, and other community health care resources for more specialized care.
• Collaborates with other health care providers to insure continuity of care. Initiates and updates Progress Notes, Discharge Summaries, and other related reports, as required.
• Perform physical exams prior to sports participation, academic internships and other programs as indicated. Performs related duties, as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of the theories and practices of professional nursing.
• Knowledge of the theories and practices of advanced professional nursing in the treatment of students/patients.
• Knowledge of the Commonwealth of Pa. Regulations for Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. Knowledge of the theory and practice of health promotion, health protection, and disease prevention.
• Knowledge of acute illness and disease processes and their signs and symptoms for students/patients.
• Skill in the application of techniques used in performing physical examinations for students/patients.
• Skill in the application of advanced nursing practices and techniques used in determining medical diagnoses and treatments for students/patients.
• Ability to assess laboratory and diagnostic test results for students/patients.
• Ability to work with and use a variety of nursing, laboratory, and medical health care equipment.
• Ability to document accurate and detailed histories and maintain records of students/patients.
• Ability to develop and implement a comprehensive primary medical treatment plan to meet the needs of individual students/patients.
• Ability to communicate oral and written ideas clearly and precisely.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students/patients, family members and/or legal guardians, and other health care providers.
• Ability to recognize changes in the students/patients overall condition that warrant the need for physician and/or other health care provider intervention for the students/patients care.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Current certification as a Registered Nurse, and certification as a Registered Nurse Practitioner by the State Board of Nursing in any Adult Care specialty area, or Emergency Care, Family Care, or Primary Care. The work of this position occurs in a typical office environment. Although infrequent, periods of heavy exertion may occur. Incumbent must have the following abilities:
• Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
• Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public
• Use a variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, auxiliary printers and similar equipment.
• Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying various weight limits.
• Operate office equipment which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
• Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
• Follow oral and written instructions
