Job Summary

The Inflight Safety, Standards and Regulatory Compliance Team is made up of four functional programs and focuses: Safety Policy and Procedures, Safety Investigations, Promotions and Fatigue Risk Management, Safety Risk Management, and Assurance Programs. Safety Consultants may support one or more of these functional areas to help ensure the programs support regulatory compliance of daily Inflight operations as carried out by the Flight Attendant workgroup. This role serves as the Inflight Operations Safety and policy subject matter expert (SME) and liaises with other SWA departments as well as the FAA, TSA, DOT, and other regulatory agencies and industry groups as necessary and appropriate.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work onsite on our Corporate Campus at least three days a week. The Department designates the specific three days of the week Employees must work on-site.

Responsibilities
Work in the execution, participation and/or support of the Southwest Airlines Safety Management System (SMS) and its role in supporting the Southwest Airlines Safety policy
Possess the knowledge and understanding of how Inflight Safety, Standards and Regulatory Compliance supports the Southwest Airlines operational philosophy
Ensure Flight Attendant manuals, documents, and communications are accurate and representative of current FAA regulations, Company policies, and procedures
Support special projects related to new and updated guidance issued by FAA, TSA and DOT
Support special projects that require cross-departmental inputs/outputs
Coordinate with Central Publications and other Southwest operational groups to ensure manuals and procedures are consistent across the manual system
Safety Risk Management (SRM) and System Assessments (SAs) as necessary and appropriate
Serve as an Inflight Safety Policy & Procedures SME to SWAU (Leaders and Instructors)
Support training initiatives and advocates for the appropriate scope of training applicable to the subject matter
Audit SWAU classes to ensure compliance with Inflight policy and procedures
Identify trends, ineffective controls, and hazards resulting in recommendations/ mitigation plans
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Transportation Security Regulations (TSRs), the FAA 8900-10 handbook, Air Transport Oversight System (ATOS), Aircraft Operator Standard Security Program (AOSSP), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
Knowledge of commercial airline operations
Skilled in written and verbal communication
Ability to build and maintain relationships with all Inflight Operations Safety programs, Inflight Operations Teams, other SWA operating departments, and Safety & Security
Ability to work independently and as a Team player required
Ability to be energetic, self-motivated, and possess a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
Ability to possess excellent organizational skills, work under stress, and meet tight timelines Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
Part 121 Airline experience
Aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS)
Assisting with developing and driving Safety processes and programs
Licensing/Certification
N/A
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from [limited space workstation/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Extended work hours and travel may be required as needed
Must meet confidentiality expectations related to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information

Competitive market salary from $92,950, per year to $103,300 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
