We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our query team. We’re looking for someone who will focus on building InfluxDB 3.0, the new open source foundation of InfluxDB. InfluxDB 3.0 is a fast, columnar, and distributed time series database, written in Rust and incorporating open source technologies like Apache Arrow, Arrow Flight, and DataFusion. The role will predominantly focus on the distributed systems aspect of the database, which operates across multi-tenant cloud environments, single tenant setups, or directly within customer data centers.

The application window will be open until at least June 28, 2024. This opportunity will remain online based on business needs which may be before or after the specified date.

What you'll be doing

• Develop high-performance Rust code for a vectorized in-memory columnar store.

• Design and implement APIs for a distributed database environment.

• Architect and build distributed query planners and executors.

• Produce comprehensive design documents and technical documentation to support development efforts and assist other programmers.

• Be part of an on-call rotation which supports our 3.0 products.

• Contribute to the open source community, particularly within the Apache Arrow & DataFusion projects.

What you bring to the table

• Years of experience with Rust or a desire to learn Rust with system experience in [C++|Golang].

• Experience building distributed systems.

• Solid understanding of CS fundamentals.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively work asynchronously.

Bonus Points

• Background in working with distributed teams.

• Experience working with database internals.

• Prior experience in participating in an on-call rotation.

• Proficiency in Go programming.
