The California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (CPRA) charges the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) with protecting Californians’ privacy rights. The CPPA’s responsibilities include: 1) rulemaking in a highly complicated, technical, sometimes contested, and nuanced area; 2) supporting awareness across California’s diverse population on issues related to privacy and data security, including the new rights provided to them by the law; and 3) preparing for meaningful administrative enforcement of those rights.

The Communications Manager will have the opportunity to:

· Assist, develop and implement the Agency’s communication, outreach efforts, and paid media campaigns

· Identify ways to convey messages to underrepresented/underserved communities

· Plan, write and edit written materials such as press releases, talking points, reports, fact sheets, website content, social media, speeches, and slide decks

· Assist in the review and approval of updates and changes to the CPPA website

· Provide clear communication across the Agency

· Facilitate media relation efforts

We are looking for someone who has:

· Experience developing and implementing an outreach campaign targeted to the general public.

· Strong writing skills, including the ability convey technically complex information in plain language.

· Experience communicating messages via numerous communication channels including informational materials, paid advertising, earned media, and social media.

· Experience communicating messages to the business community.

· Experience researching speaking opportunities, drafting talking points and speeches for executive management.

· A self-starter that can manage long-term projects through identifying tasks, tracking progress and making necessary adjustments.

· Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows), Teams, and Zoom. HTML, Video, Design skills a plus.

· Ability to handle rapidly changing priorities while demonstrating leadership ability.

· Ability to work effectively in fast-paced / high-stress situations.

· Comfortable teleworking / working remotely.

Please note that this position is part of a distributed team that is currently 100% telework but may require reporting into a physical office as needed. Final work locations are under consideration. Potential sites include Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Francisco counties.
