What You Will Do

The Clinic Billing Supervisor manages all billing, correspondence, and scanning activities and is responsible for performance and effectiveness of the department. The Supervisor will be responsible for monitoring staff performance, productivity. Ensures department objectives are met to facilitate compliant billing, improve revenue, accelerate cash, and reduce denials. Additionally, they will be responsible for supervising all correspondence with insurance companies and scanning documents to designated areas. The Supervisor will work within the department team, Front Office, Clinical and other departmental staff as needed to coordinate efforts and ensure timely authorizations and payments by insurance companies and client contracts. They will empower staff to develop methods of process improvement, including planning and setting priorities.

The Opportunity

  • People Leadership:
    • Facilitates staff by assigning and delegating work projects, center goals, directing daily work flows.  Acts as resource for team member questions regarding payer practices, claim submission/resolution and associated AR and precertification resolution
    • Facilitates or performs training of new staff in department. Coordinates schedule planning with manager as needed
    • Provides management with updates on applicable team members related to staff performance and any tools/resources developed/provided to assist with teaching, coaching and/or training
    • Evaluates, observes and conducts first line coaching/disciplinary actions of applicable billing staff. Implements improvements or modifications to work practices/policies/procedure and employee performance with manager as appropriate
    • Conduct monthly 1 on 1 meeting with direct staff and follow up with manager to relay information
  • Process flow and analysis
    • Works proactively with staff, manager and other departments as needed to resolve work flow job related duties from a technical perspective
    • Identifies issues and develops resolutions with management regarding daily/weekly productivity barriers which impact Revenue Cycle
    • Assists/manages rebilling to insurance companies or other third parties to secure payment
    • Prepares gap analysis regarding billing functions, team capacity, training, software capabilities and reports them to manager on a regular basis
  • Accounts Receivable and Collections
    • Supervises following-up and reporting status of delinquent accounts to manager to determine next steps
    • Reviews accounts and payer issues for possible staff assignment and makes necessary corrections post review with manager as needed
    • Performs various collection actions including contracting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers as well as establishes payment plans to help patients manage payment of bills
    • Makes recommendations to management for write-offs and executes approved write-offs as directed
    • Work appropriate management buckets in billing software
  • Other duties
    • Provide support for various projects including supporting Center goal initiatives
    • Ad hoc and additional duties as outlined by the Billing Manager

    • 7-10 years experience in physician or hospital medical billing. May substitute post-secondary medical claims billing degree or certificate for three years of work experience
    • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance is required.
    • Preference for specific billing certifications such as CPC, CCS or CPB.
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • All IHI employees are expected to enable multi-factor authentication via their personal smart phone/smart device in order to access IHI systems as a requirement of the role. 

This position is open to residents of the State of Indiana, and requires routine presence at our Center in Indianapolis, IN. Frequency of on-site presence is dependent upon role and department needs.
