Inpatient Health Information Management Coder - STUDENT LOAN REPAYMENT

The Health Information Management Coder is responsible for coding of inpatient and outpatient records utilizing current ICD and CPT classification systems. Code selection is based on established coding principles and guidelines in a manner which supports general billing and provides for appropriate extraction of data used by committees and individual members of the medical staff, other hospital departments and researchers. Data entry, database maintenance, and retrieval of information from reports and indices are ongoing responsibilities. In this role you may also be trained to complete one or more of the specialty tasks assigned to the coding section such as data control or reporting to legally mandated registries. As a representative of the most highly trained technical staff in the Health Information Management Department, the incumbent may also be called upon to work on special studies with the Director as delegated through the Clinical Reimbursement Manager.

In addition to the VHC Benefit Package, we offer a:

• Sign on bonus: $5,000. $2,500 payable after 6 months and the remainder paid after 1 year.
• Fully remote position.

Work 4 hours in morning and 4 hours in evening or work a 4 day work week (4 -10 hour shifts).

Qualifications Required:

• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
• Five years of coding, compliance regulations, and audit procedures experience required.

Qualifications Preferred:

• Five years of experience with PCS, ICD-10 CM, DRG, encoders and groupers, and internet-based coding preferred.
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Selects and codes diagnoses and procedures from inpatient and outpatient records.
• Keys information into the ABS and Grouper systems.
• Performs specialty tasks assigned to the Coding Section involving screening and reporting of data to medical staff committees and legally mandated registries.
• Meets productivity goals and organizes varied tasks assigned in a manner that assures deadlines are met.
• Works on special studies with Director as delegated through the Clinical Reimbursement Manager.
