Responsibilities:
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Department of Biology (http://biology.louisiana.edu), invites applications to fill an instructional position. Starting in Fall semester, 2023, the successful applicant will teach courses in Cell and Molecular Biology (sophomore level) and General Biology (freshmen level) and will provide oversight of associated laboratories. The teaching expectation is equivalent to an 80% teaching load. Other duties may involve departmental service, including mentoring undergraduate research.

Successful applicants will have a robust academic record, and will be active educators in their discipline, cultivating a student body that is intellectually curious and civically engaged. Faculty members should pursue innovation informed by best practices and serve as advisors and mentors to students to encourage success. Individuals will collaborate with colleagues to assess and improve curricula and conduct research, and should increase student success through engagement with innovative projects. Faculty members shall demonstrate institutional citizenship as leaders at the department, college, and university levels; and in their professional fields. The UL Lafayette Department of Biology is one of the largest biology programs on the Gulf Coast, with about 30 faculty members, 70 graduate students, and approximately 900 undergraduate students. Biology undergraduate students are distributed into 4 concentrations: Medical and Allied Health Sciences (50%), Veterinary Biosciences (11%), Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology (10%), Microbiology (5%), and no concentration (24%). Support for research includes a mouse vivarium, aquatics labs, departmental vehicles, greenhouses, DNA sequencers and other shared instrumentation, the Ecology Center, Microscopy Center, and New Iberia Research Center (a primate facility), and Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) marine lab. Opportunities for collaboration are available within the department, and with personnel at university affiliated centers and the USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications are a masters degree in a relevant field. Preference will be given to individuals with considerable teaching experience or a doctorate degree.
