Job Description:The Corporate Counsel is a member of a Legal Services team and is accountable for legal matters or projects within that team. This position also provides legal advice and counsel on special matters assigned by an Associate Chief Legal Officer, Regional General Counsel, or Senior Counsel.This position may be hired as an Associate Counsel or Corporate Counsel, based on experience of the hired candidate.This position can be performed remotely with travel as-needed, which is estimated to occur several times per year and primarily to Intermountain's Desert Region (southwestern Utah and Nevada). Intermountain Health maintains employment registration in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming. Candidates in other locations may be considered. Currently, we are not hiring remote workers in the following states: CA, CT, HI, IL, NY, RI, VT, and WA.This is a corporate position with system-wide accountabilities, reporting to a senior attorney, supporting one or more business units within Intermountain Health. Specific and unique duties and requirements will vary depending on the assigned team and area(s) of focus.Specific to all Corporate Counsel Roles under the direction of a senior attorney:• Manages legal matters or projects within a legal team.• Works cooperatively and closely with Director- and Manager-level leaders and stakeholders within Intermountain on legal and regulatory issues.• Identifies, analyzes and resolves complex or novel matters which have no clear legal or business precedent or have different possible interpretations.• Reads, writes, analyzes and interprets complex documents, contracts and instruments.• Supports legal projects, initiatives or government investigations under the direction of a senior attorney.• Works directly with an Intermountain business unit and develops an understanding of the business unit’s needs, products and services. Advises business unit on its policies and procedures.• Supports senior attorneys’ evaluation of the legal impact of major decisions where applicable law, regulations, or facts of the matter are unclear, controversial or conflicting.• Manages matters assigned to one or more outside firms.• Demonstrates strong teaming, relationship and collaborating skills. Able to identify, manage and mitigate legal, regulatory and other types of risks and have good judgment with respect to Intermountain’s business needs and objectives.• Able to analyze complex situations and develop simple, concise, and effective legal solutions.• Demonstrates strong writing and communication skills.• Able to manage workload with little oversight or direction.• Additional responsibilities based on the assigned team and area(s) of focus.Skills• Legal Counsel• Client Relationships• Critical Thinking• Communication (Verbal/Writing)• Problem Solving• Interpersonal (Teaming)Minimum Requirements• Must have a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and have a license to practice law in a state where Intermountain is located or be willing to obtain such licensure within 12 months of hire date. Education is verified.• Experience or demonstrated ability in a role requiring excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders in an organization (management, senior attorneys, physicians, compliance, hospital administrators, etc.).Preferred Qualifications• Corporate, transactional, commercial contracting experience (including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, supply contracts, governance and board support, physician and payer agreements).Physical Requirements:This is an exempt, full-time position. Pay offers are determined by prior years of relevant experience within the established pay range.Associate Counsel: $120,120 - $185,411Corporate Counsel: $158,808 - $245,253In addition to the annual salary, to show our commitment to you and assist with your transition into our organization, we may offer a sign-on and relocation bonus when applicable. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary.
