Job Description:
Rotational Internship Program
The Teams
Within the Microchip ecosystem of 20000+ employees are growing engineering teams of Corporate Applications Engineers (CAEs), Embedded Solutions Engineers (ESEs), Support Engagement Engineers (SEEs) and Business Unit Application Engineers (AEs). Microchip’s teams include new graduates and experienced team members, comprised of men and women of many cultural backgrounds and engineering disciplines. We work together to provide design advice and consultation to clients, promote Microchip products from our vast product portfolio, develop and deliver training material, and create win-win solutions with customers. We also have fun on the job by promoting team-building activities from within the organization.
The Roles
Microchip is offering a two-year rotational internship to students pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering on-site in our Chandler Headquarters. The rotational internship offers an advantage over traditional internships by giving you a chance to experience multiple teams and functions. Rotational programs are great for those who are not sure what they want in their careers, or may be looking to understand a company more fully. The position targets those in the last two years of university programs. During summer months, the positions are 40 hours/week, and during academic months, the position hours are flexible (targeting as close to 20 hours as possible). The position will rotate through four different teams:
Corporate Applications Engineer (CAE) / Embedded Solution Engineer (ESE):
(12 months)
As an intern in the Corporate Applications Engineering group, you will learn about Microchip Technology’s products by applying your knowledge to help customers overcome technical challenges. You will work with experienced members of the group on activities pertaining to embedded design, support Microchip products, and deliver a project/presentation at the end of the rotation. With the help of a mentor, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with customers. Upon finishing a rotation in the Corporate Application Engineering organization, you will have embedded engineering experience, customer support experience, project experience, and presentation experience. Post graduation, full time engineers often begin as CAEs.
In the Embedded Solutions Engineering (ESE) role (sometimes referred to as Field Application Engineering or FAE in industry), you will interact directly with members of the Client Engagement team (Client Engagement Managers and experienced ESE’s), working with a Microchip client to support a software and/or hardware development solution. The ESE role will be part of the CAE rotation as business opportunities allow, and may involve travel to customer sites.
Support Engagement Engineer (SEE):
(6 months)
In the Support Engagement Engineer role, you will collaborate with a team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers to analyze Microchip's Technical Support Systems and Processes and provide insights and guidance for improvements to systems and processes. Traditional statistical analysis techniques like standard deviation and linear regression to more advanced analysis techniques using machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence algorithms are used. You will help to develop applications using Python, web, and cloud-based machine learning technologies to improve Microchip's Technical Support capabilities.
Business Unit (MCU8) Application Engineer:
(6 months)
In the MCU8 Applications engineer role you will work with the product team to collect data for new PIC and AVR devices. You will participate with the product development team and assist them in achieving their objectives successfully. You will have the opportunity to participate in designing and building demonstration boards, develop firmware to demonstrate product functionality, and help with development of training material for Microchip customers and field engineers.
Requirements/Qualifications:
