The Position

Intern - Geologist

Job Summary

Project Description:

We will be drilling at Tucker Hill Mine in Lakeview, Oregon to determine perlite ore quantity and quality in the current pit. Project will be based in Fernley but will require some travel, with another Imerys team member, to Lakeview, Oregon for core drilling and to Lompoc, California for core testing. All cores from this project will need to be logged, sampled, and tested. Technical PERC reports for all of our mines, we are currently working on Superior and No Agua reports, which are also perlite mines.

Project Learning Objectives:

How to identify various perlite textures
How to log and sample drillcore to be used for a geologic model
How to prepare perlite core for expansion testing
Learn the various laboratory tests run on expanded perlite to determine ore quality
Geologic pit mapping
How to write aspects of a technical report for PERC documentation purposes
