Job Description

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program.  The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide services outlined below: 

International SOS is looking for an individual who is an experienced Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) to provide care for VA members and their families. The PACU RN is responsible for monitoring and caring for patients as they recover from anesthesia after surgery, ensuring their vital signs are stable and managing pain and other post-operative complications. They provide education to patients and families regarding post-operative care and discharge instructions. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor patients' vital signs and level of consciousness during recovery. 
  • Assess and manage post-operative pain and administer medications as needed. 
  • Identify and address potential complications or adverse reactions to anesthesia. 
  • Provide respiratory support and ensure adequate oxygenation. 
  • Maintain patient safety and comfort during the recovery process. 
  • Educate patients and families on post-operative care and discharge instructions. 
  • Document patient assessments, interventions, and responses in medical records. 
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal care. 
  • Prepare patients for transfer to inpatient units or discharge. 
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to safety protocols.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:  

  • Three (3) years current experience as a Post-Anesthesia Care Nurse. 
  • Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia. 
  • National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to obtain a nursing license. 
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. 

Education Required: 

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or  
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. 
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time. 
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 25 lbs. 

Other Special Qualifications: 

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate. 
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required. 
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
