Job Description

Primary Functions of the Position: Systems Analysts (Robotic Control Engineers) at Intuitive Surgical perform a central role in the design, development, and support of new products in the DaVinci Surgery product line. Systems Analysts are primarily responsible for the tele-robotic motion control algorithms, robotic manipulator control and safety algorithms for new surgical robots and surgical instruments. This responsibility crosses into electrical, mechanical, software, control, user interface, and safety engineering where all the subsystems are integrated together. Systems Analysts strive to provide early design input, quickly prove out new designs, and seek out solutions to subtle and challenging problems in system integration and motion control. Responsibilities continue until the products are shipping to customers with the highest quality and reliability.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and test key product control and safety software algorithms
  • Analyze complex medical electro-mechanical devices and servo control systems for safety and clinical risk, perform thorough failure mode analysis, and provide risk mitigation strategies
  • Address issues at production and also in the field, perform analysis, evaluate risk, establish root causes, propose design improvements, and provide solutions

Qualifications

Skill/Job Requirements:

  • PhD (or Masters plus equivalent work experience) in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with experience in robotics and control of mechatronic systems
  • Exceptional background in the design of classical and modern servo control systems.
  • Possess exceptional C/C++ and MATLAB programming skills. Knowledge of Python would be a plus.
  • Prior experience in computer vision algorithms would be a plus.
  • Hands-on experience (2+ years) in the design and implementation of real-time controllers for mechatronic systems would be a plus.
  • Be guided by exceptional engineering intuition for mechatronic systems and at the same time be detail oriented and able to develop and push a single solution to completion.
  • Excel in a high-energy team and demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Show passion for product quality and continuous improvements.
  • Have the ability to work unsupervised, and the determination to get through challenging problems.
