INVESTIGATOR, EMPLOYEE COMPLAINTS, Institute Discrimination and Harassment Response Office (IDHR), to conduct investigations consistent with the IDHR Investigation Guide and applicable policies and procedures. Will serve an investigator for formal complaints involving employee respondents accused of discrimination and discriminatory harassment; complete pre- and post-complaint initial assessments of allegations to identify applicable Institute policies and procedures; assist in ensuring best practices are maintained; and work on related projects as assigned. May be assigned as a lead investigator/co-investigator for complaints involving student respondents accused of discrimination and discriminatory harassment; investigate other complaints as the Institute requires; facilitate adaptable and informal resolutions of concerns reported to the Institute; and conduct outreach and education across MIT on topics including policies and procedures, discrimination and discriminatory harassment (including sexual and gender-based harassment), Title VII, and Title IX.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field, e.g., student affairs, higher education administration, law enforcement, criminology, social work, and/or psychology; three years’ relevant professional experience in investigations, discrimination and discriminatory harassment, employee conduct, and/or interpersonal violence; excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills; knowledge of Title IX and other civil rights statutes, trends, legal obligations, and national and local initiatives; and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Must be able to work effectively and sensitively in a highly diverse environment; demonstrate initiative and independently organize, prioritize, and carry out detailed work under time constraints; cultivate partnerships in MIT’s diverse community of students, staff, and faculty; and maintain impartiality in complex cases. PREFERRED: law degree; background and training in conducting sensitive and confidential investigations, ideally in a higher education environment; and experience with alternative dispute resolution practices.
