The IT Technical Engineer for Smithfield Hog Production Systems– Is responsible for the full life cycle management of Smithfield’s applications, from strategic planning to tactical execution; specifying requirements for current and future products; leading ideation, technical development, and launch of new enhancements; establishing a shared vision with business unit stakeholders by building consensus on priorities and product execution; managing projects. S/he is an advocate of continuous improvements and industry recognized best practices. The position plays a vital role with both financial and operational processes, providing high quality solutions into production environments. A great candidate will drive business best practices and standardization across the organization to best serve the company.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Utilize project management skills to ensure work streams are properly identified and prioritized, resources utilized, timelines met, and consistent status updates provided.
  • Liaison to the Business, Functional IT and related business vendor/partner groups regarding support, acquisition implementations, system enhancements upgrades and road mapping.
  • Understands the existing and emerging technologies in time keeping.
  • Drive the business processes, identify automation, improvements, and drive efficiency. Identify efficiencies, recommend innovative, design, and implement solutions.
  • Provide direction on application maintenance, troubleshooting and support including corrections for production issues, recommendations for improvement and coordination with other IT Support groups for problem resolution.
  • Provide guidance to our service partners and 3rd party vendors to ensure fixes and enhancements align with best practices
  • Create test scripts and guide system and user acceptance testing
  • Troubleshoot any reported system issues including but not limited to system not responding, configuration changes required to updated or changed policies, etc.

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, computer information systems, management information systems computer science or related field from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • Minimum of 6+ years’ experience with business application software support, required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to think creatively to effectively solve business puzzles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Provide guidance/oversight to our service partners and technical expertise in key areas such as ERP systems and support applications.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may act as a lead by providing training and guidance to others. This position is also responsible for providing oversight and mangement of our third party Service Providers.
