The role

The Software Engineering team is a central part of Javelin and enjoys varied responsibilities from the front to back office. The role will offer you the opportunity to be involved in transforming the systems of the firm and getting intimate with the business itself.

Our role is similar to the Front Office Developer role that you will find in leading investment banks and hedge funds, but the opportunity at Javelin is broader in scope and influence. Our company performs significant logistical, financing, and operational activities bridging these areas. As a result, the problems that we must solve are varied and challenging and the pace can be fast and pressurised.  However, we believe that this is what makes the role exciting and fulfilling.

Our role includes:

  • Develop and maintain high-performance applications and processes for trading and operations.
  • Work closely with traders, risk managers and other business units to translate complex business requirements into technically scalable and impactful solutions.
  • Work in a global team of developers to implement clean and well tested code participating in the full software development lifecycle – design, develop, test and deploy.
  • Enjoy autonomy to shape your own solutions and see your ideas come to life in the company.
  • Monitoring performance and failures of servers, services and processes and recommending improvements.
  • Work in our AWS and AZURE infrastructure environments to make the most efficient use of our compute.
  • Work closely with the Quantitative Strategies team to enhance and build out the systems environment.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for candidates from diverse educational backgrounds, who may or may not have a degree in computer science, but have a clear passion for working in technology, highly motivated, intellectually curious, collaborative, and open to new challenges. You should have exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, exposure to data analysis, familiarity with programming languages and excellent communication skills.

We are a small team with a wide range of experience and will provide immersive on-the-job training both technically and more generally in finance and trading. You will have access to training, mentoring and professional development to accelerate your career.

  • Studying Computer Science, Engineering, similar technical subject at degree level or evidence of working on programming projects
  • Energetic, resourceful, and innovative
  • Clear communication skills and pleasant to work with
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and under pressure
