Jellyfish is looking for an experienced product designer who wants to be a hands-on leader and contributor. Our team is growing, as is our product and customer base, and we’re looking for an experienced product designer who is excited about helping shape that growth through mentorship. This is a hybrid manager/contributor role where you’ll manage a small set of product designers without losing your ability to get your hands dirty with designs of your own.Let’s talk about responsibilities:• Manage and mentor a small set of designers in their practice, prioritization, strategy, and career growth• Contribute to product strategy and decision-making by identifying and advocating for important aspects of user experience across the platform• Continuously find ways to help democratize the idea of “good design” and help enable everyone to make better design decisions• Collaborate directly with partners across Engineering and Product Management to build solid working patterns that lead to better customer outcomes• Help guide individual designers to be more deliberate, practical, collaborative, and confident in their decision-making• Work to build more consistent practice around team-wide customer empathy by participating in and leading research and testingLet’s talk about what you need to excel:• Proven experience working as a product-focused digital designer/leader• Excellent communication skills – you’re able to articulate your design process, your decisions, the value of your solutions, and the constraints around them• A passion for mentoring others and sharing your experience to help others grow• A non-dogmatic approach to the craft of product design – you’re able to apply design thinking to the practice as if it were a product itself• Experience handling complex projects with overlapping organizational lines• Experience understanding and measuring successful outcomes• A strong portfolio or equivalent demonstration of the above (we know NDA work is hard to show off publicly)It’s not required, but it’s added bonus points for:• Experience with software engineering and the processes and practices associated with it• A generative spirit, and excitement for coming up with novel, simple solutions• An eye for high-quality, well-crafted visual and interaction design• A knack for figuring out ambiguous problems and shaping them into clear goalsA list of job experiences and qualification requirements is great, but humility, a performance-driven attitude, and a team-player approach are most important to us.
