JCCC is located inOverland Park, KS, the second largest city in the state of Kansasand part of the greater Kansas City Metro. The Kansas City Metro isknown for its museums, restaurants, and music and art scenes. JCCCis similarly dedicated to creating and maintaining a rich culturalcommunity, with an award-winning contemporary art museum and centerfor the performing arts located on campus.The Foreign Language Department is part of the CommunicationsDivision. Many of our students are non-traditional, militaryveterans, immigrants, international and first-generation collegestudents. JCCC has a diverse student population and is dedicated toincreasing its diversity.The successful applicant for this job will teach the equivalent of5-10 credit hours per semester in Japanese or will serve as asubstitute for day and/or evening courses. This person will performother duties expected of adjunct faculty, to include collaboratingand working successfully with other full-time and adjunct facultyin the Foreign Language department and other duties asassigned.Additional responsibilities:Provide extra and co-curricular opportunities for Japanese languagestudents.Participate in the planning and administration of all departmentalinitiatives.Participate in on-campus events promoting languages.Complete ACTFL and/or other departmental training.Incomplete applications will not be considered.Candidates will be interviewed using zoom and will be asked todemonstrate a 30 minute Zoom class.Required Qualifications:• M.A. degree in Japanese or language pedagogy, literature,culture, second language acquisition, applied linguistics, orrelated field with native or near native fluency (JLPT N1level)• Demonstrated knowledge of using technology in theclassroom• Demonstrated understanding of the climate of post-secondaryinstitutions• Demonstrated knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards forLearning Languages• Demonstrated ability to teach elementary and intermediate levelJapanese language courses• Demonstrated excellent communication and collaborationskills• Demonstrated knowledge of using technology in teaching• Demonstrated 2 years teaching experience at the post-secondarylevel and/or 4 years of high school teaching experiencePreferred Qualifications:• PhD in Japanese, East Asian Languages or Cultures orLinguistics with a focus on the Japanese language• Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate levelJapanese language courses• Demonstrated ability to teach online using zoom or a platformsimilar to zoom• Documentation from ACTFL (OPI) of advanced, mid or higher inJapanese• Ability to teach Chinese, French, German, Japanese or Spanishwith HLC credentialsTo be considered for this position we will require an application,resume, and/or cover letter transcripts.Position Details: Job duties include but are not limitedto:• Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity,may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion ofmanagement, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed atany time, as required by business necessity.About JCCC: Established in 1969, Johnson County CommunityCollege is dedicated to transforming lives and strengtheningcommunities through learning.
