Junior Buyer - Customer Care

Overview:

John Bean Technologies Corporation (JBT) is a leading global technology solutions provider to high-value segments of the food and beverage industry with focus on proteins, liquid foods, and automated guided vehicles. JBT designs, produces, and services sophisticated products and systems for multi-national and regional food companies through its FoodTech segment. JBT also sells critical equipment and services to domestic and international air transportation customers through its AeroTech segment.

JBT AeroTech manufactures and services airport ground support equipment (plane de-icers, aircraft tow vehicles and cargo loading systems), airport gate equipment (Jetway brand), and military equipment.

The Junior Buyer - Customer Care position is responsible for the timely procurement of materials and services from suppliers while adhering to the negotiated price, quality, inventory levels and delivery to meet the company’s overall needs. The Junior Buyer is accountable for spending up to $10 million in purchases.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform systems analysis and applies an understanding of the manufacturing process and supplier capabilities to the demand sequence and job start dates generated by MRP to identify potential material availability problems
  • Work to resolve potential problems and avoid disruptions to production flow and/or spare parts fulfillment
  • Provide updates on material availability to enhance planning and minimize interruptions
  • Perform and interpret ERP systems planning signals and take appropriate actions
  • Learn supplier base strengths and weaknesses and integrate into planning decisions and executions
  • Foster positive and cooperative relationships with suppliers and internal customers
  • Execute purchase orders in accordance with proper procedures
  • Evaluate the most cost effective value for procurement alternatives
  • Develop and implement verifiable cost savings strategies
  • Effectively manage inventory to minimize capital employed
  • Work collaboratively with Production and Customer Care to ensure that materials are received in a timely manner to support orders
  • Work collaboratively with Global Sourcing Team to ensure adherence to all negotiated agreements and pricing
  • Work collaboratively with Quality to ensure that all purchased material conforms to requirements
  • Work productively and cohesively in a diverse and multicultural environment
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 2 years of procurement experience preferred
  • Experience with heavy machinery or hydraulic systems, electronics, and other key supply; specific JBT equipment preferred
  • Experience in a highly customizable, fast-paced manufacturing environment preferred
Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates): C.P.M. or APICS certification is desired


Specialized Knowledge, Equipment, and Applications:

  • Experience with MRP and or ERP systems as well as Microsoft Office tools

Special Information (Travel required, physical requirements, work environment, supervisor responsibilities, safety and so on):

  • Work Environment- The successful candidate will be comfortable and able to function equally well in an office environment and on the floor of our manufacturing and assembly plant. Adherence to all safety requirements and use of personal protective equipment within the plant is mandatory.
  • Physical Demands- Long periods of sitting and repetitive motion, especially computer keyboarding. Frequent standing and walking around the facility, including on the factory floor.

  • Supervisor Responsibilities - This position has no direct reports
  • Degree of Supervision - Works under minimal supervision
  • Relationship Responsibilities - As part of the Tactical Purchasing Team, the employee will need to work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, Production, Inventory, and Customer Support and Accounting staff; must be able to build excellent rapport with assigned suppliers as necessary to maximize value of supply chain relationships
  • Travel- While extensive travel is not necessary for this position, the successful candidate will need to be able to travel on supplier visits within North America as required
  • Safety- Maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards by properly using protective equipment, safe operation of all machinery, tools, and equipment as well as following safety rules at all times
