Kamehameha Schools is searching for two (2) Practice-Based Researchers (in Aina Learning & Teaching). One position will be a regular, full-time position and the other will be a 1-year, Defined Term, full-time position (with an end date of June 2026).   This position will be integrating evidence-based research strategies into ‘aina-based educational practices.

Our ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Education or Hawaiian Studies, along with 2+ years of professional experience within the education field AND have extensive educational research/data analysis experience.

This will be a Mon - Fri position located at our KS Hawaii Campus in Kea'au.

Job Summary

Supports the integration of research into ʻāina-based educational practices, working closely with kumu, haumāna, and various partners to contribute to the advancement of ʻŌiwi Edge learning and teaching for E Ola!. Focuses on implementing research-based strategies and tools that promote haumāna-centered pathways for critical inquiry. Contributes to data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings that inform and improve teaching practices and curriculum development. Through collaboration and active participation in research projects and studies, helps ensure that educational practices are evidence-based, culturally grounded, and responsive to emerging trends. Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities

Support in Research and Implementation:

  • Assist in conducting research projects to advance ʻŌiwi Edge learning, collaborating with educators and partners.

  • Perform data collection, entry, and preliminary analysis to support research projects.

  • Contribute to the design and testing of educational tools aligned with research insights.

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data, preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders.

Integration of Research Findings:

  • Assist in applying research findings to enhance haumāna learning experiences.

  • Ensure research insights are accessible and actionable for educators.

  • Support the application of evidence-based strategies and tools in educational practices, and promotes continuous learning and improvement.

  • Participate in creating materials that support data-driven decision-making.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Participate in community engagement activities involving research collaboration.

  • Maintain strong relationships with community partners, aligning research with cultural values.

  • Contribute to discussions on the impact of research on haumāna and community well-being.

  • Support the promotion of data literacy among educators by assisting in training sessions.

Minimimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Research, Hawaiian Studies, or a related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in educational research or data analysis.

  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting.

  • Experience in haumāna-centered learning and ʻāina-based education.

  • Basic knowledge of Hawaiian epistemology and research methodologies.

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.

  • Proficiency in using technology for research and data analysis.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a related field.

  • Experience in culturally-based educational environments.

  • Familiarity with ʻŌiwi Edge learning and teaching practices.

  • Experience in curriculum development and instructional design.

  • Proficiency in ‘Ōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language).

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, stands, walks.

  • Regularly performs desk-based computer tasks and engages in light or fine manipulation.

  • Occasionally may work outdoors, which may include exposure to weather conditions such as sun, wind, and rain.

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing 10-20 pounds.

  • May occasionally  involve twisting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, or reaching during activities.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily conducted on campus or at other innovative educational settings; office work is also required.

  • Typical work hours are Monday through Friday during normal business hours, with evening and weekend hours sometimes necessary to meet objectives and attend or conduct events.

  • The role is dynamic and project-based, often requiring flexibility and adaptability to changing educational and community needs.

  • Regular interactions with KS staff, partner stakeholders, and administration for collaborations, presentations, visits and observations.

  • Some inter-island, national, and global travel
