As part of the Legal team, Counsel will provide legal services to Justworks in support of various functions in the organization. This role will report to Senior Counsel and involve working with people throughout the organization to offer legal guidance and support.

Your Success Profile

What You Will Work On

  • Work with other Justworks teams, including Product, Engineering, Customer Success, People, Payments & Tax, Risk & Insurance, Marketing, and Sales relating to various legal matters
  • Educate stakeholders on legal matters, policies, and changes in relevant laws and regulations that impact our business 
  • Prepare, maintain, and update Justworks policies and standard operating procedures
  • Prepare and conduct training, as necessary  
  • Assist Senior Counsel with various legal matters and perform other tasks as assigned from time to time, including, assistance with development and coordination of Justworks’ internal legal program
  • Work closely with and manage outside counsel relating to various matters, including domestic and international employment matters
  • Provide legal support to People and HR Consulting teams on a variety of matters throughout the employee life cycle 
  • Provide thought leadership and support for DEIB initiatives
  • Negotiate commercial contracts and assist with corporate matters and transactions 
  • Review customer-facing content, including content generated by the Marketing and HR Consulting teams
  • Help drive legal program awareness and handle other related responsibilities  
  • Other duties as needed based on department and/or organizational needs

Qualifications

  • JD degree from an accredited law school
  • NY Bar admission or NY in-house counsel registration required
  • Minimum of 5 years of substantive legal experience in employment matters with a corporate legal department and/or a nationally recognized law firm
  • Must possess litigation experience and a superior knowledge and application of contract and business law with strong legal analysis skills
  • Sound judgment in managing contractual risk and exposure
  • Committed to being a solution oriented legal business partner to internal clients
  • Experience in counseling clients on wage and hour matters, preferred
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management, organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • A collaborative, team player with a positive attitude
  • Occasional travel may be required

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $175,500.00 to $193,050.00 per year.

Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location.  Salary ranges for positions based in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
