Mechanical Engineer, Reactor System Design

Kairos Power is a nuclear energy technology company focused on commercializing advanced fluoride-salt-cooled high-temperature reactors to support clean energy transition. They seek a Mechanical Engineer experienced in mechanical design, 3D modeling, stress analysis, and reactor system manufacturing to contribute to design and technology development of nuclear reactor systems.

Skills

Expertise in mechanical design and 3D CAD modeling
Proficiency with stress analysis and FEA simulation
Knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) and related codes
Familiarity with manufacturing processes like machining, forming, and welding
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities

Develop mechanical design information and document for major FHR systems and components
Perform design tradeoff and optimization studies
Create and update CAD models and engineering drawings with proper dimensioning and tolerancing
Conduct static and dynamic stress calculations using analytical and FEA methods
Maintain compliance knowledge with ASME, ANSI, and ASTM codes and standards
Apply solid mechanics and failure theories for high-temperature alloy steels or composites
Visualize design constraints related to construction, maintenance, and operation
Support manufacturing including DFM studies and reviewing inspection reports
Publish detailed technical documentation including calculations, analyses, and test reports

Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
